A double within two minutes was enough for the favorite to advance: Holstein Kiel is in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup thanks to two goals from Alexander Mühling (26th minute, penalty kick) and Janni-Luca Serra (28th).
The second division prevailed 3-0 (2-0) at the regional league club Rot-Weiss Essen in the evening after Joshua Mees (90th) increased to the final score in the final minute.
The fourth division had started confidently.
Essen organized itself well and came across several good opportunities via standards.
Kiel, on the other hand, barely managed to take advantage of their own half and technical superiority for almost half an hour.
The first chance for the favorite came from an unfortunate action by Essen: Dennis Grote slid up to the left in the penalty area from behind, Finn Porath fell, the referee gave a penalty.
A decision that caused discussions at half-time because a contact could not be clearly identified.
But Mühling did not miss the opportunity and placed in the right corner, while Essen goalkeeper Daniel Davari jumped in the opposite direction.
Just two minutes later, Serra increased to 2-0 after a transverse header from Fin Bartels.
In the second half, Essen began again bravely, but remained too imprecise in its conclusions or was pushed aside.
Kiel kept calm, but hardly any dangerous actions took place in spite of the resulting spaces.
Bartels in particular tried again and again to put his teammates in the limelight with quick steps - without success.
Only shortly before substitute Joshua Mees set the end point with a deflected shot.
