Absent from the rings since his defeat to Anthony Joshua and the loss of his three IBF, WBA and WBO world belts in December 2019, a few months after his surprise victory over the Briton, Andy Ruiz is preparing his return.
The boxer that we will see entering the ring on April 24 against Chris Arreola has little to do with the one we have known in recent years.
Nicknamed the "Destroyer", Andy Ruiz has never had the plastic of a Deontay Wilder or a Tony Yoka, displaying a crippling overweight but which was also his strength and helping to make his blows more devastating.
In December 2019, before his fight against Joshua, the 1.88 m colossus had posted 128 kg on the scale, leaving many observers doubtful.
New trainer and new plastic
Aware that his repeated excesses and lack of preparation had prevented him from retaining his triple crown, Ruiz opted for a radical change by enlisting the services of a new coach Eddy Reynoso.
Under his orders, the juggernaut literally melted away, leaving the Snickers in the cupboards and turning their backs on the Tex-Mex restaurants he was fond of, losing, according to the British press, more than ten kilos of fat.
A transformation that should allow the one who was nicknamed Fat Andy (The Fat Andy, ed) in schoolyards to gain speed but also explosiveness.

Unrecognizable, the American-Mexican boxer now displays his new body with pride on social networks by announcing his comeback.
His clash against veteran Chris Arreola in a few weeks should only be a step on the long road to reclaiming his belts and a beautiful one he hopes against Joshua.
