The new method of team formation for the All-Star NBA continues to provide a glimpse into how stars are perceived by other players in the league.
Tonight (Thursday through Friday) LeBron James and Kevin Durant put together their teams from the pool of players selected for the traditional game to be held on the night between Sunday and Monday in Atlanta, revealing how much Utah stars, the team with the best balance in the NBA, are really valued.
Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gober, the two representatives the Jazz sent to the game, were selected last in the second round of the Draft, with LeBron James noting that he deliberately avoided them.
"There is no disregard for Utah here," LeBron insisted when asked why the jazz stars were chosen last.
"You have to understand - when we grew up and played video games, no one ever played with Utah. Even when the Jazz had two historic stars like Carl Malone and John Stockton, we never chose them in video games. Never," LeBron explained with a smile.
Either way, LeBron's humorous explanation did not satisfy some commentators, who argued that LeBron and Durant were indeed disrespecting Utah stars.
Guber, who has previously been left out of the All-Star in a controversial manner, will play alongside LeBron, who was forced to pick him in the 14th and final pick.
