Danny Galm will take over the FC Bayern U19 team this summer.

The future junior coach gives an insight into his approach as a trainer.

Munich - With Danny Galm (34), FC Bayern has caught one of Germany's greatest coaching talents for its U19s.

The ex-professional is moving from TSG Hoffenheim to Munich, where he has worked in the youth field for the past five years.

In the book “Kicken wie die Profis” by Kai Psotta (€ 10.99 from Heyne-Verlag), Galm gives insights into his way of working and his ideas about football.

Danny Galm: This is how the new FCB coach designs his training

In week one, when the new players are just getting together, Galm has many forms of play.

In a large space, initially without the small, quick actions.

“First of all, it's about getting used to the ball.

The longer the preparation takes, the narrower the space we play in.

The faster the actions, the greater the pressure. ”Fits are trained, as are gossip options.

Galm teaches his game principles.

That his team should have the ball.

Topics such as "open position" are on the training plan.

Or "How do I start properly".

Galm often lets ten field players play against three goalkeepers - a modification of 10 against 0, a positional game.

With the Galm variant, a goalkeeper is firmly in the box.

The other goalkeepers also defend in the penalty area to increase the pressure in the box.

“As a youth coach you have to know exactly what you're doing, especially in this age range.

Unfortunately, there are too many coaches who want to achieve too much in the tactical field.

But it's not our game, not a coaches game.

We are not with Germany-sucht-den-Supercoach.

FC Bayern: Danny Galm tickles his players with psychological tricks

Galm had the greenkeeper draw an additional white line at the entrance on the cross side of the training field.

“If my boys decide to step over this line, it means that only football will count.

That from that moment on I don't care about a problem with my girlfriend.

If there are problems, of a private or school nature, if the parents have separated or whatever, they can talk to me about them beforehand or afterwards.

But while we're on the pitch, we get the most out of it and enjoy football.

Behind the line, only one thing counts. "[...]

So Galm sometimes lets go in training games, although he has seen clear foul games.

“Sometimes the referee doesn't whistle in real games either.

That's why I try to allow such stressful situations. ”Or he counts down the time out loud with a penalty kick so that the shooter is stressed.

FC Bayern: If you don't sprint at Danny Galm, you have to pay

During the training camp it still happens that players, although they have known the catalog of penalties for four weeks now, wildly pounded around with the ball.

For example, when Galm is building up new exercises or during drinking breaks.

Because painful hits have occurred in the past, players have been badly hit in the back or face, the coach reacts harshly and consistently and imposes thirty euros per violation.

"I have simple rules that you can understand with common sense," says Galm.

"And if you don't want to understand it, you just have to pay."

The amount of money that is collected in this way is not used under Galm's direction to organize a fun team evening at the end of the season.

“This would mean that the fines would not serve their purpose.

The money does not benefit the team, but always goes to a charitable institution. "
