The 2018 French champion suffers from broken ribs and vertebrae after a fall in training this Saturday.

On the eve of the start of the Paris-Nice race, where David Gaudu and Arnaud Démare will be the team leaders, the members of the Groupama-FDJ formation learned bad news this Saturday.

Anthony Roux, 32, was seriously injured in a fall this Saturday during training.

"Anthony Roux was the victim of a fall this morning while training near his home," said the Groupama-FDJ team in a press release.

He was immediately transported to the Toulon University Hospital where the X-rays revealed fractures: bilateral ribs, the scapula as well as two cervical vertebrae.

Anthony will remain under observation following a lung contusion.

A rest of four to five weeks will be necessary, to be re-evaluated according to the evolution.

Roux is not just anyone within the Groupama-FDJ team.

He notably competed in five Tours de France, most often alongside Thibaut Pinot.

His fact of glory remains the title of French champion in 2018 on the road.

At Mantes-la-Jolie, he had beaten Anthony Turgis and Julian Alaphilippe.

He also won a stage of the Tour of Spain 2009.

This season, Roux had to abandon the only event he played: the Tour of the United Arab Emirates after a fall that did not reveal any fracture.

But the bad luck had not finished with him this year.
