Glasgow Rangers fans celebrate in the streets (Twitter)

After more than a decade in which not only did she not win the championship, but also had to come back from the fourth division, Glasgow Rangers got significantly closer tonight (Saturday) towards securing the championship.

Steven Gerrard's team met St. Mirren in the 32nd round and defeated them 0: 3.

Now the Rangers' advantage at the top over champions Celtic in second place stands at 21 points, with the city rival left with another game missing that he will complete tomorrow against Dundee United away.

In the event that Celtic lose, Rangers will be crowned champions already in this round, with a derby against the city rival next week.

This means that Celtic players will be forced to take part in the "Honor Guard", the ceremony of honoring the champion customary in the Scottish League when the incoming champion arrives after being crowned.

If Celtic win, then Rangers could actually be crowned in the biggest game against the biggest rival.

Meanwhile, fans of the champion on the way did not wait for things to become official, and although a closure was imposed across the Scottish capital due to the corona, they took to the city streets to celebrate and sing.

On the eve of the season opener, Scotland have been constantly talking about the possibility of Celtic breaking a record and winning a tenth consecutive championship for the first time in history (the record stands at nine).

But Rangers opened burners and with dizzying success rates, led the table by a double-digit gap from a very early stage.

The Jers prevented Celtic from breaking the record for consecutive wins, but more importantly: they won the title for the first time since 2010/11.

In the last 10 years they have experienced a huge crisis, been relegated to the fourth division due to heavy financial debts, returned to the front of the stage due to a thumbs up and finally completed the job.

When the championship becomes official, it will be the 55th in the history of the club.

Four more than Celtic.
