Real Madrid breathed a sigh of relief tonight (Sunday) after the team recovered from a loss in a derby against Atletico and parted ways 1-1 away against its city rival.
In doing so, Zinedine Zidane's side prevented the leader from increasing their advantage over the Blancos to eight points, which seems to be the scenario that is going to happen - until Karim Benzema arrives.
Real's great Frenchman recorded a number of big misses against host goalkeeper Jan Obelek, but in the 88th minute he managed to equalize at the end of a great personal operation and a combination of dedication with Casimiro.
Beyond the expensive equalizer, Karim Benzema - who returned to the squad tonight after a long absence due to injury - recorded another impressive milestone in Real Madrid.
The Frenchman became the foreign player with the most league appearances in the history of the Blancos when he reached 371 La Liga games in Real.
The striker overtook Roberto Carlos, the legendary left-back of Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team.
Benzema scored 182 goals during his 371 appearances.

Real Madrid coach
Zinedine Zidane
: "Athletics were better in the first half, but we improved in the second. That's one point, and we're still alive - we will fight to the end."
Real demanded a penalty during the first half when a high ball clearly touched the hand of Atletico Felipe's stopper, but the referee who checked VAR decided to ignore it.
The coach commented on the incident: "The referee examined the move on video and decided it was not a penalty. We have no choice but to respect his decision."

said at the end: "I think today was a good game, very tough. They dominated more in the first half and we in the second. I think we deserved more than a point, but this is football. Kasmiro and I practiced on that move during the week. I think we could have scored even more "But Obelek had some good saves. The league is far from over."
Atletico have not been able to beat Real for ten league games in a row.

For Atletico Madrid, this is another league derby that the team is unable to come out with three points.
The Colchoneros have failed to subdue the Blancos in a league game since 2016 and Atletico Madrid's negative streak in the La Liga derby stands at 10. This is the third consecutive non-winning streak in the Madrid derby for Atletico.
The second worst streak was between 1992 and 1999 and stood at 14, but the worst streak was recorded between 2000 and 2013 and stood at 23 consecutive derby games in the league that Atletico Madrid failed to win!

was disappointed at the end: "We were clearly better. If we had done better in the second half, we would also have come out with the victory. We know what the level of Real, which is one of the best teams in the world. We played against a tough opponent with a lot of potential "In the front. We will have more opportunities to forehead Real Madrid in Wanda Metropolitano."
