Tölzer Löwen win 4: 1 in Frankfurt thanks to regained efficiency and two McNeely goals

Frankfurt / Bad Tölz - It's amazing, the offensive ups and downs at the Tölzer Löwen.

Once they were the most effective team in DEL 2, at times they didn't hit the goal at all this season.

Now the knot seems to have burst again: On Monday evening at the Löwen Frankfurt they appeared unbelievably ripped off after an initially even game in the final phase and won after three similar, ice-cold goals from the slot as in the first comparison with the Hessians with 4 :1.

"Hats off to what the team can do with so few players," said coach Kevin Gaudet.

Before the game, he didn't think he had too many chances to win.

In addition to the usual injuries, striker Lubor Dibelka also reported at short notice with groin problems.

The Tölzer got off the bus with just five defenders and seven strikers.

And at first we had problems.

"Frankfurt was the better team in the first third," says Gaudet.

"We put a lot of pressure on, but didn't make anything out of all of our chances," said the Frankfurt coach, Franz-David Fritzmeier from Tölz.

Darren Mieszkowski in the margin and Adam Mitchell from close range failed to lion keeper Maximilian Franzreb.

But the decimated Tölzer were also regularly dangerous.

Luca Tosto was probably surprised himself that he was allowed to shoot so freely in the slot.

But the Upper Bavarians had Franzreb.

"He kept us in the game, that was the key," says Gaudet.

Because after the Frankfurt lead - when Luis Schinko's shot was placed, Andreas Schwarz Franzreb blocked the view, who therefore hardly reacted when the target landed in the corner - the Tölzer match plan seemed to work better and better: counterattack against the fast Max French, Reid Gardiner or Tyler McNeely or long passes to a tall striker.

And also captain Philipp Schlager successfully took over Dibelka's part in the second Tölzer storm.

French faked his slap shot to compensate.

However, it remained tight until the final phase.

Then, however, the guests pulled away to 4: 1.

The good-humored Tyler McNeely started with a double punch.

He grabbed a disc in front of the Frankfurter Kasten and put it undisturbed to 2: 1.

Four minutes later he increased the free slot to 3: 1.

And Marco Pfleger also had time to adjust the target again in front of goalkeeper Bastian Kucis, the Tölz top scorer executed into the top right corner to make it 4-1.

With this, the Tölzer Löwen successfully defended themselves against the attack of the fifth in the table on their position four.

Fritzmeier admits: "After the 1: 2 we had nothing more to add, and Tölz deservedly won."
