Almost the peak of records.
The rookie card of the late star Kobe Bryant was sold last Saturday for $ 1,795,000 at Goldin, an online auction house that specializes in souvenirs from the world of sports, making it one of the most expensive basketball cards ever sold.
The card from the 1996/97 season is kept in excellent condition and is one of two "at this level of perfection", according to the auction house.
The card received a score of 10 in all quality indices and was set at the prestigious "Black Label" level.
Currently, "Goldin" has not revealed the name of the happy buyer.
As you may recall, Bryant - who was one of the most famous athletes in the world - died at the age of 41 in a helicopter crash in January 2020 along with his daughter Gianna and 7 other people who were on the helicopter.
After his tragic death, Bryant's cards were traded in bulk online, and according to eBay data, their value increased by about 600%.

This is Kobe Bryant's most expensive card ever sold, but at the peak of a basketball player's card is actually owned by Baron James, whose card was sold in July 2020 for $ 1,845,000.
In this case, too, it is a rookie card from the 2003/04 season.
Outside of basketball, a signed rookie card by baseball player Mike Trout sold in August 2020 for $ 3.9 million.
The all-time record for the most expensive sports card belongs to the 1952 baseball player Mickey Mantel's card that was sold last January for $ 5.2 million.
