Novak Djokovic made history yesterday (Monday) when he completed week number 311 in first place in the world, thus surpassing the record of Roger Federer, who stood at 310 weeks at the top.

The 33-year-old Serb is now the world number one in the 48 years of the ATP rankings.

The Serb, who won the Australian Championship for the ninth time last month, was interviewed by the BBC and said: "My family has supported me from the first moment. What Roger is still doing at his age is something that has been a great inspiration to me and many players and great to see him return."

Djokovic's win in Australia was his 18th Grand Slam title and is only two times far from the shared record of Federer and Rafael Nadal: "When I started playing 15 years ago I had two big challenges that had to overcome Roger and Rafa.
