Borussia Dortmund is back in the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2017.

The 2-2 (1-0) draw against FC Sevilla was enough for Dortmund to advance after the first leg win.

Erling Haaland scored both Dortmund goals (35th minute / 54th, penalty kick).

Youssef En-Nesyri scored twice for Sevilla (69th, penalty, 90 + 6).

Most recently, BVB reached the round of the best eight teams in the 2016/2017 season.

Back then, after the attack on their team bus, the Dortmund team was eliminated in the quarter-finals against AS Monaco.

After the 2-3 defeat in the first leg, Sevilla needed at least two goals in Dortmund to reach the quarter-finals.

The Spaniards were correspondingly offensive and pushed for an early goal.

Seville often pushed BVB back into their own penalty area, but it was rare for them to close in the penalty area, and usually the last pass did not arrive.

BVB keeper Marwin Hitz only had to parry a long-range shot from Lucas Ocampos in the first half hour (3rd).

The Borussia released itself from the clutches every now and then with long balls or combinations.

After such a release, the pressing against Seville's build-up game led to the lead: Nico Schulz won the ball in the attacking third, Marco Reus crossed the baseline and Erling Haaland pushed in to make it 1-0 (35th).

After the break it got strange: Haaland scored the supposed 2-0 (35th).

But referee Cüneyt Cakir looked at the television pictures of two scenes: First a foul by Haaland just before his goal, then a foul by Jules Koundé on Haaland in the penalty area a few moments earlier.

Cakir then decided that Haaland's goal didn't count, but gave BVB a penalty because of Koundé's foul.

Haaland stepped up himself, but goalkeeper Yassine Bounou parried the shot into the left corner (52nd).

But that's not all: the video assistant switched on again and pointed out to referee Cakir that Bounou had moved off the line too early.

The penalty was repeated, Haaland scored 2-0 and this time the goal counted (54th).

After that, little came from Seville.

But after Emre Can's push against Luuk de Jong, referee Cakir pointed back to the point.

En-Nesyri converted to 1: 2 for Sevilla (69th).

In stoppage time things got tense for a moment.

After a cross from Ivan Rakitić, En-Nesyri headed to equalize (90 + 6).

With another goal, Sevilla would have made it into extra time, but shortly after the 2-2 win, Cakir whistled off the game.
