ARD and ZDF are now allowed to broadcast matches of the European Football Championship 2024 in Germany.
Around a year and a half after the defeat in the allocation of rights, the two public broadcasters reached an agreement with Telekom on a sub-license for the home EM.
The first and the second show 34 of the 51 matches at the tournament in three years, including all games of the German team.
RTL has secured the 17 other games, as Deutsche Telekom announced.
Surprisingly, in October 2019, Telekom had secured all of the media rights for the European Championship in Germany from the European Football Union Uefa and prevailed against ARD and ZDF, among others, in the tender.
Now she has shared the rights with the classic TV channels and in return has received broadcasting licenses for all European Championship matches this year and the 2022 World Cup.
According to the interstate broadcasting treaty, the European championship matches of the German national team, the opening game as well as the two semi-finals and the final must be freely receivable.
Telekom could only have guaranteed this through an Internet offer.
