The players and management of the Angers club have accepted wage cuts ranging from 10 to 30% for the end of the season in the face of the financial crisis, Philippe Caillot, deputy chairman of the club, announced on Wednesday.

After losing 12 million euros last year due to the suspension of the championship, Angers foresees a new hole of 18 million euros this season after the TV rights fiasco and the prolongation of the measures behind closed doors.

Faced with this crisis, similar agreements have already been concluded in Lyon, Lens and Reims, and are under discussion in most Ligue 1 clubs.

In Angers, the amendment to each contract signed last week should save nearly 2 million euros.

“We had three meetings and it was done,” explains Philippe Caillot.

They didn't jump on my neck.

Not all football players earn 100,000 euros per month.

"I am delighted today with the agreement reached with all the players and staff concerning the reduction in their salaries," said Saïd Chabane, the owner of the club in a press release.

Beyond their altruism towards the institution, I would like to salute them for the image they give of themselves, of the Club and of the world of football in general.

This effort grows them, and demonstrates their full awareness of the consequences of the crisis we are going through.

"

In Maine-et-Loire, the salary cuts, obviously modulated according to the level of income, affect only the players and not the other staff of the club.

"What we wanted was that everyone participate, (make) a collective effort as in the field", adds Philippe Caillot, specifying that the employees of the administration and training had not been put to contribution.
