On the way to Barcelona: Jordi Cruyff has begun negotiations to release his contract in Chinese Shenzhen
After receiving an application from Laporta, the former Maccabi Tel Aviv official contacted his team's management, so that he could be appointed technical director of the Spanish luxury club in the coming days.

The Dutch-Catalan has today (Wednesday) officially contacted the management of Shenzhen, the Chinese team he coaches, asking to release his contract, so that he can join the Catalan luxury club, Sport reports.
"After new president Joan Laporta officially approached him, Jordi approached the Shenzhen management to have his contract released, even though there was one more year left on his contract," Sport wrote.
"The parties are currently negotiating the terms of the release and Cruyff is expected to be appointed the group's technical director soon."

Cruyff (47) played in Barcelona's youth department, where he arrived at the age of 14 from Ajax following his father's appointment as Blaugrana coach in 1988.
When he graduated, he played for Barcelona B, and in 1994 he first joined his father's squad, under which he played for two years and scored 11 goals in 54 games.
But Barça finished those two years only in fourth and third places, and in 1996 Johan Cruyff left the coaching position, and his son signed for Manchester United.
During his four years at Old Trafford Cruyff left no mark, and later returned to Spain and played for Salta Vigo, Alavés and Espanyol before moving for two years at the Ukrainian Metallurg Donetsk and retiring to Malta from Malta.
By the time he hung up his shoes, Cruyff had made nine appearances for the Dutch national team, and was one of the only players in the history of the Orange to wear the national uniform even though he had never played in the Dutch league.

After his retirement he served as assistant coach to Valletta for one season, before moving to the position of sporting director at AAK Larnaca in Cyprus.
After two years he landed at Maccabi Tel Aviv, which helped him win three consecutive championships that came after a drought of ten years without a championship.
Cruyff made sure to select only foreign professional teams, closed the locker room to the media as much as possible and became one of the symbols of the professional revolution the club underwent under Mitch Goldhaar.
After two years in which Hapoel Beer Sheva was crowned at the expense of the Yellows, who replaced eight coaches in five years, Cruyff himself was appointed coach, but even at the end of next season, the team from the Negev capital won the championship and Cruyff left Israel.
In the two and a half years since, Cruyff has served as China's Chongqing coach, appointed Ecuador's national team coach last January but left after six months without standing on the lines even once, and returning for another term in China as Shenzhen coach.
