Hippism: syringe case, nominee ... unprecedented sanction against Andrea Marcialis

2021-03-10T19:19:29.688Z

The 37-year-old transalpine professional has had his public coaching licenses withdrawn until April 2025.

The situation is not getting better for Andrea Marcialis.

Already suspended for six months, until next July 1, for a nominee affair, the Italian professional, 37, was again sanctioned by France Galop.

He was banned from exercising his profession as a public coach until April 5, 2025 and a fine of € 4,000.

This heavy and unprecedented sanction follows five different cases investigated by the parent company.

The commissioners of France Galop accuse him of infiltration based on unidentified products before the races on six of his gallopers, as well as treatment on four of his residents within prohibited deadlines, and not in accordance with the racing code, before their participation in a test.

These ten horses were left behind.

Seen with a syringe hidden in his pants

He is also accused of a prohibited treatment on the racecourse of Saint-Cloud (Hauts-de-Seine) last August where he was seen with a syringe hidden in his pants, as stipulated in the Official Bulletin of France Galop, put online yesterday at the parent company's website.

As with his first conviction, Andrea Marcialis was also sanctioned for a new nominee file with 27 horses listed with his Russian colleague, Igor Endalstev.

The latter receives a suspension of 3 months, accompanied by a total revocable suspension for a period of 5 years.

Andrea Marcialis has four days to appeal.

Suspicion of links between Marcialis and shady vets

"Mr. Marcialis was apprehended administratively in August 2020 by France Galop for having stung a horse on the day of a race, which is strictly prohibited, whatever the nature of the injection", recalls Jean-Baptiste Bladier, prosecutor of the Republic of Senlis.

While suspicions of links between Marcialis and crooked veterinarians appear in the wake, an important preliminary investigation is opened by the prosecution in September.

As part of this investigation, a number of wiretaps were carried out leading to a vast operation on Monday morning, at the end of which 14 people including a number of players linked to the equine world such as veterinarians or stable boys were taken into custody.

Indictment for "organized gang fraud"

This Thursday, 10 of them will be referred for indictment for "organized fraud", "forgery and use of forgery" and "equine doping" for facts ranging from August 2020 to February 2021.

So many facts in which Andrea Maricialis would hold "a central role", specifies Jean Baptiste Bladier, who asks against him to be placed under judicial supervision.
