After a year and a half, Stefanie Mittasch resigned from her position as trainer for the third division handball team HSG Würm-Mitte. She continues to trust her ex-club a lot.

After a year and a half, Stefanie Mittasch resigned from her position as trainer for the third division handball team HSG Würm-Mitte.

She continues to trust her ex-club a lot.

Würmtal - There is a little sadness when Stefanie Mittasch talks about the HSG Würm-Mitte.

"I already miss it.

We were together in the hall a lot, and it's a shame not to be part of it anymore, ”says the former coach of the third division handball players and the female B-youth team (Bayernliga).

Nevertheless, she is certain: "It was still the right decision for me." For one and a half years, from June 2019 to December 2020, Mittasch worked at HSG Würm-Mitte.

Their farewell recently became public, as the discussion about a return to (friendship) gaming is slowly picking up speed again.

Mittasch, who comes from Pegnitz in Upper Franconia, explains: “I am back home for private reasons.

I thought about it for a long time and then made the decision for myself. ”The corona pandemic also played a role.

She was already at home a lot during the first lockdown - and she was drawn back there: "I noticed that I want to be closer to my friends and family again."

HSG Würm-Mitte shows understanding for Mittasch's decision

In December Mittasch sought a conversation with those responsible at the HSG and announced her departure.

“The club was very open and showed understanding,” she says.

Würm-Mittes board member Benedikt Waterloo, who is currently looking for a successor, knows: "It's not a full-time job, and there are other things than handball."

Mittasch looks back on his time with the Würmtaler Wildkatzen with positive feelings: “I was very happy to be part of the association and to be able to move something.

It was a lot of fun, we experienced a lot together and also had a successful time. "

Mittasch continued the success story of former coach Lohmann

Indeed, the sporting record is impressive.

In the early summer of 2019, shortly after moving to Munich, Stefanie Mittasch took on the difficult legacy of long-time successful coach Claus Lohmann at Würm-Mitte.

Lohmann had led the women from the regional league to the third division, but after a season in the third-highest German division, the wildcats were relegated to the Bavarian league again.

Mittasch had no teething problems: The HSG won 19 of 20 Bayernliga games, with only one draw.

Shortly before the showdown for the championship against HC Erlangen, who was only one point behind, the season was canceled in March 2020 due to corona, and after weeks of waiting, Würm-Mitte rose to the green table.

“We achieved more than the set goal,” praised Waterloo.

Another abrupt end of the season: Würm-Mitte maximum friendlies

But Mittasch's second season as a trainer in the Würmtal ended just as abruptly as the first: After months of preparation, the HSG was able to play three league games, but then the game was interrupted again due to the renewed tightening of the corona protective measures in November 2020.

As reported, the wildcats will only take part in one "friendly game round" until the start of the coming season.

Since there are no relegated teams, they are sure to stay up.

Stefanie Mittasch has a lot more confidence in HSG Würm-Mitte in the future

Despite the three third division defeats that Mittasch experienced as a trainer at HSG Würm-Mitte, she is not worried about the future of Würmtaler handball: "I think the club will continue to develop very, very much." She wants to keep in touch stick to their ex-club.

The right conditions are in place in order to establish oneself sustainably.

“You're already placed in the youth league.

And there are also very, very good youth players coming, ”says Mittasch.

On the other hand, she has not given too much thought to her own future as a handball coach.

She doesn't have a new club yet, and she doesn't have to return to the coaching bench as soon as possible.

Mittasch: "I don't have a plan yet."
