The DM title of ESC Planegg and Ingolstadt's bronze: Both have a lot to do with the talent factory of TSV Erding.

Two Erdinger ex-players tell how they experienced the Final Four.

Erding - The Final Four in Füssen could also have been called the Erdinger class reunion.

Nine players who were already active at TSV were now involved in the decision about the German women's ice hockey championship.

It was a playoff tournament for the top four teams in the main round.

In the end, Franziska Feldmeier, Tabea Botthof, Sonja Pleyer and Franziska Albl cheered in the dress of the ESC Planegg.

They celebrated with champagne and music in the cabin “until the ice cream master kicked us out,” says Franziska Feldmeier with a laugh and adds: “Of course that was only possible because we all had negative corona tests.” After the cabin party, we went in the team bus continue.

"I was home at one o'clock in the morning."

Tamara Lan Yee Chiu, Sorsha Sabus, Bernadette Karpf, Jessica Hammerl and Celina Haider, who has also played at ESC Dorfen, needed something to make friends with third place.

After all, you and ERC Ingolstadt were the first in the main round to go to this final tournament as a favorite.

But in the semifinals they repeatedly bounced off the defensive of the Berlin polar bears and lost 1: 2.

“The disappointment was of course huge,” admits Sorsha Sabus.

“But of course anything can happen in a tournament with this mode.

We started the tournament as favorites, so everyone's expectations were very high.

Berlin had nothing to lose and was able to play freely. ”Your team left no stone unturned,“ but we never found our game 100 percent ”, analyzes Sabus.

In addition, Berlin had signed an import player from the USA with Theresa Knutson before the tournament, who then promptly scored two goals.

"We often hit the post and the crossbar, but the puck didn't want to go over the line," says Sabus annoyed: "Unfortunately, a goal in a game like this is not enough for a win."

Things went much better for the Planegger Pinguine, who prevailed 3: 2 (0: 0, 3: 1, 0: 1) against the ECDC Memmingen Indians in the semifinals.

The Allgäu women had previously won the championship twice and absolutely wanted to defend their title.

They shot on goal 34 times, but the outstanding goalkeeper Franziska Albl could only be overcome twice.

The ex-goalkeeper of the Gladiators proved to be indomitable, especially when the score was 1: 1 and doubled.

With a double strike in the 35th and 36th minute, the Planeggerinnen opened the gate to the final and never let it fall.

Goalie Albl was also a bank in the final against Berlin.

When the score was 1-0 - Kerstin Spielberger scored the goal after a dream pass from Feldmeier - she defused a penalty.

The game could have turned over.

Shortly afterwards, however, the 2-0 fell, and when Justine Reyes added the 3-0 to the start of the third period, the game was over.

In the end, the Planeggers won 4: 1 (2: 0, 0: 0, 2: 1).

For Franziska Feldmeier, the penalty held was a detail of many small things that ultimately brought her team the championship.

“Our range of players from young to old, who have a wide variety of characteristics, the motivation of the younger ones, the experience of the established - it's all part of it,” she says.

But also the encouraging words on the bench, the willingness to block every shot or to always follow up after a conclusion and then - such as in the semifinals - to hit the margin are further parts of Planegger's secret of success.

And: "At the tournament it became clear who can call up the most solid team performance over two games under pressure."

In any case, the success did not come as a surprise to the Planegger women.

“The championship has always been our goal.

We already know this mode from the German Cup.

We knew that anything can happen in just one game and that we can do it with our strengths, that is, fighting spirit, will and solidarity. ”Incidentally, it was Planegg's eighth title.

Feldmeier was there for the third time.

Bronze went to ERC Ingolstadt with a 2-1 win against Memmingen.

Sabus again focused on the overall performance of the team: “We are very proud of ourselves.

We have never finished the main round in first place.

We only dropped points against Planegg and Memmingen.

And who knows how it would ultimately have turned out if we had played in a best-of mode, that was briefly up for debate.

Unfortunately, some teams were against it. "

By the way, she is very enthusiastic about her Ingolstadt team: “I've never experienced such cohesion as in our team.

Everyone gets along with everyone else, there are no hierarchies.

Even those who are not always allowed to play often travel with us and support us with the gang. ”The ERC and the five ex-Erdinger women will make a new attempt next season to win the DM title for the first time.

"As things stand, only Solveig Neunzert, my defense partner, is leaving us," says Sabus.

"Everything else will be seen when the season for the national team is over."

Finally, in May, the World Cup will take place in Canada.

That is why the first preparatory course of the DEB in Füssen will take place next week.

Then the former Erdinger women will be back on the ice together.

“It would of course be a big dream.

to be there in Canada ”, admits Sabus, but refers to the strong competition.

Because - this Final Four has also proven - German women's ice hockey has reached a significantly higher level and is attracting significantly more public attention.

"We're really pleased," says Franziska Feldmeier, who had to smile a bit when asked about a possible DM bonus.

“We are still a long way from such payments.

Unfortunately, women's ice hockey still has too little reach. ”Still.

"It has improved a lot," says Feldmeier.

The great interest of the press in the Final Four and the praise and encouragement from friends and acquaintances - “these are the things we are happy about in women's ice hockey.” And of course the World Cup in Canada, because Franziska Feldmeier is not allowed to do that absence.
