Ice hockey player, 19, dies after being hit on the head by a puck

Russian Dynamo Saint Petersburg player Timur Fayzutdinov was injured in a game on Friday. He died on Tuesday.


In intensive care for three days, Timur Fayzutdinov died Tuesday after receiving a puck on the top of the temple during a Russian junior league game on Friday night against the Loko of Yaroslavl.

The Russian player from Dynamo St. Petersburg was 19 years old.

After receiving the puck in the face, the young hockey player immediately collapsed on the ice.

The team doctor initially treated him on the ice before he was transported to the hospital in the city of Yaroslavl.

In serious condition, the young player could not be transferred to a better equipped establishment as desired by his parents.

“We understand it's a risk, but we have to take it,” the player's mother told Russian media 76.ru.

The defender of the Saint Petersburg club was named captain of his team at the start of the season.

An investigation was opened to determine the effectiveness of the care and management of the player after his accident.
