The press release in full:

That the

Starbulls Rosenheim

finish

the main round of the

ice hockey Oberliga Süd

as third in the table has been certain for a long time.

The

Blue Devils Weiden

still had a small chance to improve to ninth place in the table, but for which a

three-point success

in regular time would have been necessary.

Whether

Weiden will be

in the

playoff quarter-finals

(if so, then against the table top Eisbären Regensburg) will be decided next weekend.

Then the

Blue Devils

will meet

the

EC Peiting

in the pre-playoff (two leg and one second leg)

.

The

Starbulls

missed numerous important players in the last game of the main round with Florian Krumpe, Maximilian Vollmayer, Michael Baindl, Curtis Leinweber, Tobias Meier and Timo Bakos.

Head coach John Sicinski

still sent four strikes into the race and gave numerous young talent a chance.

At first, the home side were overwhelmingly superior and deservedly took the lead.

After a

nice combination via Kyle Gibbons and Dominik Daxlberger

, Simon Heidenreich met over the shoulder of

guest keeper Luca Endres

to make it 1-0 (7th).

After that, the guests from Upper Palatinate came into play better and better.

Marco Habermann finally equalized to make it 1-1 when he headed for the Rosenheim goal from the side and

cheated

the puck from a tight angle past

Starbulls goalkeeper Andreas Mechel

over the line (15th).

In a second part of the game with slight optical advantages in favor of the home side, Marius Schmidt used a Weiden outnumbered game to make it 1: 2 (35th).

Shortly before the second third

break

,

Bobby Slavicek

, also in the majority,

equalized to

2-2

after a pass from Beppo Frank and Dennis Schütt (39th).

Slavicek had previously failed at the Weiden goal post (37th).

In the balanced final third, Simon Heidenreich, who was heading for the guest goal alone, could have scored the Rosenheim winning goal in the closing stages, but

goalkeeper Endres

saved the

match

(57th).

An inglorious highlight was a stick check by Weiden's Neal Samanski in the face of Dennis Schütt, who was rightly punished with a match penalty (42nd).

However, the

Starbulls

were unable to capitalize on

the subsequent overpayment

phase.

The extension lasted only 40 seconds.

Then

Edgars Homjakovs

backhanded Jonas Stettmer, who came into play for Andreas Mechel at the beginning of the third period, with a clever

backhand

finish

to make it 2: 3

.

For John Sicinski, the end

result that evening

was of secondary importance: “Despite the many failures, it was a good performance by us.

The many young players really did their job very well ”.

Table constellation unchanged

From

Rosenheim's point of view

, the course of two games played at the same time that evening was

exciting

.

Since the SC Riessersee in Selb and the Deggendorfer SC in Füssen each just lost 2: 3, the

table constellation has not changed

.

As third in the table, the

Starbulls

meet

Deggendorf SC, who remains in sixth

place,

in the first playoff round.

The series begins on March 23 with a

home game in Rosenheim

at 7.30 p.m.

Other dates are March 26th and 28th and, if necessary, March 30th and April 1st.

These corona rules apply to the playoffs in the major league

Due to the

pandemic situation

, the

playoffs of the ice hockey league will

initially

take place internally

in the

south and north seasons

.

So it doesn't start with a round of 16 made up of 16 teams, but rather with internal quarter-finals with eight teams each.

So one master each of the

upper league squadrons North and South is

determined.

Afterwards, the two champions (or those placed in the playoffs who are eligible for promotion) will meet in a

promotion

final

to DEL 2

.

All four rounds are played in the "best of five" mode.
