The traditional competition in Schongau, which should have taken place for the first time in mid-July as a double event with two races on two days, also fell victim to the corona virus in 2020.
Even more than six months later, the pandemic still determines the daily life of each individual and creates enormous restrictions.
Nevertheless, the people in charge of the Schongau tri-team are already looking towards summer: Then there should be a second attempt for a two-day triathlon event on the Lech.
The Schongau Triathlon is planned for Saturday, July 17th.
One day later, on Sunday, July 18, the German junior championship, for which the Schongauers had already been awarded the contract by the German Triathlon Union last year, is to take place.
“All of this is of course subject to change.
We do not know if we will get the necessary permits.
and the general conditions change practically every week, ”says tri-team boss Wolfgang Ahrens, however.
The federal government's vaccination campaign - albeit a sluggish one - gives him a little hope.
"Perhaps the vaccination quota will be so high before our competition that we can start," said Ahrens.
“Perhaps the participants also have to submit a negative test,” muses the tri-team boss.
Schongau Triathlon: Individual starts not possible due to competition reasons
Ahrens does not even want to deal with changing the competition conditions to individual starts in order to reduce direct contact with the starters, as was sometimes done at some events last year.
“In the league, that is, at the Schongau Triathlon, and also at the DM there is a slipstream race.
You can't make individual starts there, ”Ahrens clarifies.

Josi Zeller's organizational team is currently busy with the first planning.
"We are currently preparing the tender so that people can register," says Ahrens.
Despite the long break, there does not seem to be any competition fatigue among the triathletes.
You can already register for the triathlon in Ottobeuren on June 26th, "and it is fully booked," Ahrens found out.
Even in his own club, although club life is almost completely ruined, he has not seen any waning interest.
“I don't see any danger that active people will break away.
They are all individual athletes, they still trained a lot and they are all hot, ”reports Ahrens, who takes himself as an example.
“I've cycled more than ever in the past twelve months,” says the tri-team boss.
Completing running units was no problem for the endurance athletes.
It looks a little different when swimming in the face of closed baths everywhere.
There are only exceptions for the squad athletes.
"There could be a distortion of competition," fears Ahrens, whose department will have to forego the usual swimming units in the "splash" for a long time, even after possible easing in the spring.
"There the revision work will be brought forward and therefore there will be no pool operation and therefore no swimming training before May 1st," reports Ahrens, who also has the traditional Schongau children's triathlon in mind, which usually takes place in June.
Organizing this "could be difficult," said Ahrens.
He does not want to rule out a cancellation like last year.
