Scene of the game:
A set piece for Atlético Madrid preceded the decisive action - for Chelsea.
The visitors' cross was blocked, Kai Havertz drove the ball forward and played it into the barrel of Timo Werner, who was starting on the left.
He fit in the middle to Hakim Ziyech, who overcame Jan Oblak in Atleti's goal.
The 1-0 in the 34th minute was the first good opportunity in the game - and the Blues took advantage of it coldly.
The result:
After their 1-0 victory in the first leg, Chelsea also won the game at Stamford Bridge 2-0 (1-0) against Atlético Madrid and are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2014.

The first half:
Both teams approached the game at a much faster pace than in the sparse first leg.
Atléti rarely got past the outstanding N'Golo Kanté in midfield, there were no chances until 1-0.
Only João Félix provided a shot in the 39th minute for a slightly increased pulse for Chelsea goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, who has now played more games without conceding (20) than conceded goals (18) this season.
Half penalties are not complete:
Atlético coach Diego Simeone was allowed to play the beloved role of Rumpelstiltskin twice in the first half: Once Antonio Rüdiger had thrown guest attacker Luis Suárez off balance on the penalty area line (24th minute), a few minutes later Yannick fell Carrasco after a delicate pluck from César Azpilicueta.
The initial suspicion of a penalty kick was present both times, but referee Daniele Orsata saw too little criminal offense for a whistle.
The second half:
Atlético Madrid should have scored two goals, but they hardly radiated danger.
The most spectacular scene of the guests in the opposing penalty area was an assault by Stefan Savić against Rüdiger, which Orsato punished with red (81st).
In stoppage time, Emerson, who had just been substituted for Havertz, scored with a shot from the left-hand position for the 2-0 (90 + 4).

Tuchel's tactics:
The 13th game under Tuchel at Chelsea was the 13th without a defeat (nine wins, four draws).
Frank Lampard's successor remained unsteady in terms of staff and system.
Compared to the 0-0 win at Leeds United at the weekend, he changed his team to five positions and switched from four to three.
In the front, the fast Werner was allowed to play instead of the winning goal scorer from the first leg in Bucharest, Olivier Giroud.
Chelsea pressed up and kept the guests busy in their intended chase in their own half of the game.
The substitution of the game:
You are 1-0 down at Chelsea after just under 60 minutes, need two more goals to get through and then get your most accurate striker off the field with 18 goals in the league?
Sounds strange, but it was the surprising change from Simeone.
Sneaking off the square, Suárez grimaced in a simulated smile, he generously refrained from clapping with his coach before he got rid of his tools in the stands.

DFB scouting:
With Rüdiger, Havertz and Werner, three German national players were in the starting line-up of the Blues.
All three showed an attractive performance, which should make national coach Joachim Löw positive in view of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers at the end of March.
However, the corona turbulence could mean that the players from England do not even travel to these games.
That shouldn't be so inconvenient for Chelsea.
Defensive wins title:
Two goals conceded in 13 competitive games - Tuchel seems to have found the key to success with his new team.
The fact that the club only scored 15 goals in the process is only a minor annoyance.
The 47-year-old had already led Paris Saint-Germain to the final in the preseason.
In the upcoming draw for the quarter-finals on Friday, his FC Chelsea will be one of the teams you least want to play against, alongside defending champions Bayern Munich and Premier League leaders Manchester City.
