Heiko Vogel, ex-youth coach of FC Bayern, has to lead six training sessions of a women's team as a punishment for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The verdict triggers severe criticism.

Mönchengladbach

- At the end of January, Heiko Vogel, former youth coach of FC Bayern and now coach of the U23 Borussia Mönchengladbach, burst on the sidelines.

When his team played, Vogel is said to have behaved unsportingly towards the two assistant referees.

He was then sent to the stands by the referee.

Not really a special thing, is it?

But now the judgment of the Westphalian Football Association (WFDV) has been made public.

And that leaves room for irritation.

The former coach of the Bayern amateurs was suspended for two games and has to pay a fine of 1,500 euros.

In addition, however, Vogel was sentenced to lead six training sessions for a women's or girls' team.

WDFV's verdict: Dunja Hajali (ZDF) and Viktoria Schnaderbeck are outraged

The association's measure quickly caused a lot of trouble.

Does a coach who behave unsportingly towards assistants automatically lack respect for women in football?

Is running a training session seen by women as a punishment?

The verdict is particularly angry with female football fans.

"Hope you have complained to the West German Football Association," wrote Dunja Hayali, presenter of the "Current Sports Studio" on ZDF, via Twitter to Borussia Mönchengladbach, "or what's the nonsense? Why should a girls' or women's team whistle / train be a punishment? "

The Austrian national player Viktoria Schnaderbeck expressed herself even more clearly.

For the Arsenal player, the verdict is a “conscious form of sexism” in which she feels discriminated against.

“Punishment” for Heiko Vogel recalls the DFB verdict against Karim Demirbay

Heiko Vogel, who was employed by FC Bayern Munich from 2013 to 2017, must definitely complete the training hours by June 30th.

Incidentally, the WDFV did not want to comment on the matter even when asked by Sport1.

There had been a similar punishment before: Kerem Demirbay had to lead a game between two girls' teams after insulting Bibiana Steinhaus.
