Salaries in Ligue 1: with 3 million euros per month Neymar well in front of Mbappé

2021-03-19T08:07:29.398Z

LE SCAN SPORT - L'Equipe reveals that the Brazilian receives a salary almost 50% higher than that of Kylian Mbappé in a ranking once again dominated by Paris SG.

"Paris and the French desert".

We could paraphrase the famous sentence of the French geographer Jean-François Gravier by applying it to the ranking of the salaries of the players of the League revealed by L'Equipe this Friday.

For the sixth year in a row, the daily establishes a ranking of the highest emoluments of the French elite.

And as in previous years, this hierarchy is crushed by Paris SG which has eleven of its players in the first eleven places!

Paris crushes everything with an average salary of 800,000 euros

Unsurprisingly, Neymar appears in the lead with a gross monthly salary estimated at 3,060,000 million euros.

The Brazilian is far ahead of the other superstar of the French championship, Kylian Mbappé, who receives 2,098,000 euros.

The two men who are currently discussing with their club to extend their adventure in the capital stand out from the rest of the standings.

Behind the two attackers, we find a tight squad of four Parisian players who exceed one million euros: Marquinhos (1.2 M €), Verratti (1.2 M €), Di Maria (1.1 M €) and Navas (1M €).

First non-Parisian player in the standings, Ben Yedder (Monaco)

You have to go down to 12th place to find the trace of a footballer who does not belong to the squad of French champions: Ben Yedder (650,000 euros) and Fabregas (600,000 euros) both Monegasques.

Memphis Depay, first Lyonnais, is 16th with 480,000 euros while Florian Thauvin is the first Marseille representative in the ranking (20th with 422,000 euros).

Note that Lille, currently at the top of Ligue 1, have only one representative in this Top 30, Renato Sanchez (26th with 300,000 euros).

Wages were due to drop next season

In its file,

L'Equipe

insists on the upcoming drop in all salaries in French football due to the coronavirus crisis but also TV rights affecting club finances.

In the meantime, Paris SG remains by far the most generous club with its locker room and an average salary estimated at 800,000 euros, four times that of OM (202,000) and AS Monaco (185,000).

OL are off the podium with 145,000 euros on average, which still represents 5.3 times more than the average pay of a player from Reims at the bottom of the hierarchy.

Mauricio Pochettino, highest paid coach in Ligue 1.

The players are not the only ones to live comfortably on their salaries in the French professional football landscape.

It is once again at the Paris SG that we find the highest emoluments with 940,000 euros for Pochettino while his predecessor, Thomas Tuchel, signed to 625,000 euros.

The Argentinian receives twice as much as Kovac, the new ASM coach (400,000 euros) and three more than the newcomer to OM Jorge Sampaoli (300,000 euros).

Figures that should make Stéphane Planque dream, the Nîmes coach having to settle for 7,000 euros because of his interim status.
