While he had decided to hang up his crampons at the end of the season, the opener of Ciel et Blanc will play a year for Bordeaux-Bègles before

An ultimate challenge.

A final boost in Bordeaux, then François Trinh-Duc will join Montpellier, where he will begin his second life, that of associate director of an engineering consulting firm.

The opener of Racing 92, who has worn the bantamweight jersey 66 times, was initially supposed to hang up his crampons this summer, at 34, after two seasons with the Ciel et Blancs.

He confided, before the final sprint in the Top 14 and in the European Cup, on the reasons for his choice, his vision of rugby and that of the Blues who once again delight their supporters.

Why did you decide to sign a year with Bordeaux-Bègles?

FRANÇOIS TRINH-DUC.

I had planned to stop my career but I listened to the arguments of Christophe Urios

(Editor's note: UBB manager)

and Laurent Marti

(NLDR: the president)

.

Bordeaux-Bègles is a top of the table, ambitious club, my role will be to bring my experience, to support young people.

It is very rewarding.

I'm not 25 anymore, I can no longer play 30 full games per season but I have other things to give, to play as much as possible and to pass on.

What did you take away from your time in Racing?

Already, I hope that the best is yet to come, that I will finish on a good note in the Top 14 or in the European Cup, and win one or two titles with Racing before leaving.

There is a great state of mind in this club.

I am also in this role of transmission.

It might not show a lot on weekends during games but it represents intense work all week in training.

After, it was Laurent Labit who had me come and he left when I arrived

(Editor's note: assistant to the coach of the Blues

Fabien Galthié

)

.

I had known the same thing in Toulon, by signing for a project directed by Diego Dominguez, which did not stay long.

How do you see these two seasons marked by the Covid-19 pandemic?

It was not the best time to come to Paris.

But we must recognize that we have been privileged to be able to continue to exercise our profession.

I told myself that this crisis would undoubtedly change mentalities in our sport by causing greater openness.

I hope everyone realized that the club economy was fragile, that we were walking on eggshells.

Me, I always needed not to be focused only on rugby.

That is to say ?

In Montpellier, I had opened a restaurant.

Then I continued my studies and thanks to the high-level athlete sector, I was able to get a “Grande Ecole” master's degree two years ago at the Grenoble management school.

I am the associate director of an engineering firm in Montpellier.

For the moment, I find my team by going back and forth on my days off.

Continuing to play is also a way for me to enrich my training by discovering Christophe Urios' management approach, which is a benchmark.

My experience as a player allowed me to meet different managers.

I learned from everyone and saw, with some, what I didn't want to be.

How do you find Fabien Galthié's French team?

It appeals to everyone, supporters, educators, children.

This generation is already ready for this level.

The strategic choices are interesting.

We see combinations that make you dream.

I know the work that it represents in training.

The staff is of quality with coaches who have scored the Top 14.
