The first round went to the opponent: EC Peiting lost quite a lot at the play-off start in Rosenheim.
However, the game was not as clear as the result.
Rosenheim - keeping your distance is the order of the day in pandemic times.
On the bench, it was not difficult for the players of the EC Peiting on Tuesday evening.
At the start of the play-off in the major league with the "Starbulls Rosenheim", only 14 field players - not even three complete rows - were available.
The hosts, on the other hand, had 19 players plus two goalkeepers.
The balance of power was hardly reflected on the ice for long stretches;
the game was pretty even.
And yet there was a clear 1: 6 (0: 3, 1: 2, 0: 1) defeat.
Because the Peitinger made a few mistakes too many, conceded two goals with their own majority.
In the first few minutes of the game, the Rosenheim team determined what was going on.
“We had problems getting into the game,” said ECP player Simon Maier in the “Sprade TV” break interview.
The unfavorable conditions (four weeks break due to Corona, small squad) were not an issue for him: "We are not looking for excuses." Rosenheim's Bohumil Slavicek had the free-standing lead on the racket, but Peiting's goalkeeper Florian Hechenrieder reacted strongly (5th).
After that, the guests came up harder and were close to a goal.
Martin Hlozek shot over it (7th).
Then Ty Morris and Simon Maier caused danger in quick succession, the puck even landed on the post (10th).
In the end, Nardo Nagtzaam failed twice (11th).
EC Peiting conceded the first goal in the urge phase
It was precisely in this urgency phase that the ECP received a penalty time.
Rosenheims only needed 24 seconds outnumbered, then Enrico Henriquez Morales made it 1-0 (12th).
Immediately afterwards Peiting had a power play, but the guests didn't create any chances.
After an inaccurate pass from Hechenrieder to defender Martin Mazanec, the "Starbulls" got the puck, Michael Baindl increased to 2-0 (17th).
Only 36 seconds later Dominik Daxlberger even scored the 3-0 (18th);
Kyle Gibbons had shown a good overview in the preparation.
In the second third, the EC Peiting reported back: After a face-off, Lukas Gohlke falsified a Mazanec shot to make it 1: 2 (22nd minute).
As a result, both teams had phases in which they dominated.
The Rosenheimer 4: 1 by Gibbons (27th) fell after a Peitinger disc loss in the attack third and a quick return move.
Before that, "Starbulls" player Alexander Höller hit the post (23rd).
The ECP had various opportunities for a hit, including by Sinan Ondörtoglu (31st) and Daniel Reichert (32nd) as well as in the power play by Morris (33rd) and Heger (33rd).
The latter failed at the greatest ECP chance shortly before the end of the third due to the strong “Starbulls” keeper Andreas Mechel (38th).
In the following power play, Morris had bad luck twice.
To make matters worse, Rosenheimern started another break - Henriquez Morales finished the beautiful move with the 5: 1 (40th).
In the final section, the Peitinger were hardly able to build up any more pressure.
Given the unequal squad sizes, that was not surprising.
A double majority (49th) offered another chance to make the game exciting, but with luck and skill the "Starbulls" prevented a goal.
With four players on the ice, the Rosenheimers showed their playful class again: On pass from Henriquez Morales, the Peißenberger-born Tobias Meier scored the 6: 1 (51st).
At this point in time, the official shooting statistics showed it to be 26:26.
In the final minutes, both teams took their foot off the gas.
The second play-off duel will take place in Peiting on Friday, March 26th.
