The corona virus recently caused turbulence in the top division.

In addition, the EC Peiting was spared the pre-play-offs.

Now it's against the Starbulls Rosenheim.

The ECP even gained positive things from the most recent long break in play.

Peiting - It was quite turbulent last Friday at some clubs in the Oberliga Süd.

Because of the Corona cases at the Blue Devils Weiden and Deggendorfer SC, the telephone wires were glowing.

The consequence of the strict regulations that the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) and the clubs had agreed in advance for such cases was the premature end of the season for both teams.

EC Peiting was also affected by this - in a double sense.

First, the pre-play-offs against Weiden were canceled, so that coach Sebastian Buchwieser's squad got a place among the top eight teams in the league without a fight.

In addition, the Peitinger got a new play-off opponent.

The ECP moved up one place in the table through the removal of Deggendorfer.

Instead of the duel against the table runner-up in the main round, the Selber Wölfe, the third-placed Starbulls Rosenheim are now waiting for the Pfaffenwinkler in the quarter-finals.

"We would have liked to have gained match practice in the pre-play-offs, but we take it as it is," said Buchwieser, who, despite the long Corona break, was confident of asserting himself against Weiden in the duel.

EC Peiting starts the play-offs relaxed

This break has now been extended by a few days.

The Peitinger team only ended their one-month absence from games on Tuesday, the last assignment was on February 23.

“Of course we don't have match practice, but on the other hand we can now start the play-offs relaxed.

Our heads are free, our ailments from the last few weeks have healed.

That can be an advantage for us ”, says ECP captain Andreas Feuerecker, who can see something positive about this situation.

The Peitinger are also not unhappy about the new play-off opponent.

"The boys are extra highly motivated when they play against Rosenheim," says Buchwieser, referring to the many hotly contested comparisons with the Starbulls in recent years.

There is also a reunion with Buchwieser's predecessor as a Peitinger trainer.

John Sicinski, who trained the ECP from 2014 to 2016, is now in charge of the Rosenheimers.

Starbulls Rosenheim have the best offensive in the league

A Starbull player, captain Michael Baindl, also has a Peitinger past.

The best scorer at Rosenheim this season was Curtis Leinweber, who came from Deggendorf before the season.

The Canadian has scored 15 goals and 31 assists so far this season.

The second contingent player from Rosenheim, Kyle Gibbons, is hardly inferior to him with 41 points.

So far, Tobias Meier from Peißenberg, who came from Füssen and scored 21 goals, has also made a strong impression in third place.

With a total of 161 hits in 35 games, the Starbulls represent the best offensive in the Oberliga Süd.

With the special teams, i.e. outnumbered and outnumbered, they are only below average.

The Peitinger's balance with the Starbulls this season is balanced.

In the two games that took place in Rosenheim, each team won a victory.

"Nevertheless, we are clear underdogs, after all, the Starbulls want to move up," said Buchwieser, holding the target flat before the maximum of five duels against Rosenheim.

His hope that his last badly decimated squad will fill up again due to the somewhat longer break has not been fulfilled.

“We're going to Rosenheim with 14 field players,” said Buchwieser, who, like before the failed Weiden games, had to do without Elias Maier, Manuel Bartsch, Aziz Ehliz, Dennis Neal, Pius Seitz and Markus Czogallik.

The latter two are in the second duel next Friday in Peiting.

Neal would actually be fit again after his shoulder injury.

“But he has no game approval from the employer,” regrets the ECP coach, who is still in good spirits despite the thin cast.

“The important thing is to get off to a good start.” Buchwieser hopes that his team won't put down such a completely unsuccessful opening third as they did in the 2-4 defeat at the beginning of February.

The ECP was 1: 4 behind after 20 minutes.
