The French swordsmen, European champions in 2017 and 2018, missed the team qualification for the Tokyo Olympics this summer (July 23-August 8), at the end of the last selective event in Kazan (Russia), this Tuesday.
For this final qualifying World Cup event for Tokyo, the French lost in the quarter-finals against the Chinese (42-38), 2019 world champions and silver medalists in Rio in 2016. However, to compete in the team event in Tokyo, they had to reach the final.
In Tokyo, the hopes of the Bleues à épée will therefore rest solely on an individual basis on Coraline Vitalis, individual European champion in 2019.
