The only 16-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko from Borussia Dortmund could become the youngest debutant at a U21 European Championship, according to UEFA.

Moukoko is already the youngest player in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

“With Youssoufa we have an extraordinary talent in Germany that we want to promote carefully and in line with performance.

In close consultation with Borussia Dortmund, we decided to nominate him because we think that his participation will help both the team and his development, ”said coach Stefan Kuntz.

The 18-year-old Musiala also played in the European Championship qualification for England's U21s in autumn and is therefore not eligible to play.

U21 EM: Stefan Kuntz nominates squad for the group stage

The German U21 national coach Stefan Kuntz names his squad for the upcoming group stage of the European Championship on Monday.

A total of 23 players will be able to play against hosts Hungary on March 24th and the Netherlands three days later in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, and against Romania on March 30th in Budapest.

Stefan Kuntz should also be on the list of candidates to succeed national coach Jogi Löw *.

First of all, the European champion from 1996 is challenged in his current job, as coach of the U21 national team.

The most important competition for U21 footballers was divided into two parts this year due to the corona pandemic.

The preliminary round of the tournament will take place in Hungary and Slovenia from March 24th to 31st, the knockout phase will follow two months later from May 31st to June 6th.

The two best teams of the four groups of four qualify for the quarter-finals.

U21 EM: Moukoko and Musiala in the raffle - Which talents make it into the squad?

The German U21 team became European champions in 2017 with a 1-0 win against Spain, two years ago the Spaniards retaliated and won 2-1 in Italy against Germany.

In the semifinals, the Kuntz-Elf prevailed against this year's group opponent Romania with 4: 2.

Borussia Dortmund's 16-year-old striker Youssoufa Moukoko * can also hope for a first-time nomination.

The super talent recently scored his third Bundesliga goal in a 2-0 win against Hertha BSC.

In autumn last year Moukoko only made his debut for the U20 national team.

On the sidelines of the Dortmund Champions League game against Sevilla last week, Kuntz is said to have inquired about Moukoko.

The Dortmund side is said to have given the go-ahead.

Jamal Musiala from FC Bayern would also be eligible to play for the U21s.

National coach Jogi Löw had recently announced that he would like to appoint the 18-year-old to the senior squad for the international matches at the end of March.
