Voices on the lockdown extension: "Everything boils down to an end to the season"

The restart in football is a long way off with the extension of the lockdown.

This is what the Freising clubs say about the end of the season:

District

- The word "emergency brake" is on everyone's lips.

It will take effect in the Freising district as of today, Wednesday, because the 7-day incidence has been above 100 since the weekend.

That means: team sports are prohibited, opening steps are excluded.

In addition, the federal and state governments have not only extended the lockdown to April 18, but also tightened it in parts.

It is unclear what the corona situation will look like after the holidays.

For the footballers this means: the scope to bring the season to an end is noticeably dwindling.

How should the Bavarian Football Association (BFV) react now?

What are the chances that the 2019/21 round, with or without a league cup, can be played by June 30th?

Would another extension of the season make sense?

Or should you pull the emergency brake here as well and break off the playing time right away?

The FT asked around at the district associations.

Anselm Küchle (Hallbergmoos): "It would be good for all clubs to put this chewing gum season on hold."

© Association

■ Anselm Küchle, sporting director of the national league club VfB Hallbergmoos:

“Actually nothing has changed.

A start at the end of April is off the table - and according to my association information it would have taken it to bring the season to an end by the end of June.

I therefore no longer see any opportunities to finish this round.

For all clubs and also for the decision-makers at the association, it would now be good to put this chewing gum season aside.

Of course, there will also be disgruntled clubs that haven't achieved their goals.

The association has regulated the termination scenarios precisely for this situation.

If the season were to be stretched further, the next season would begin again with a heavy load. ”

Only three weeks of preparation: "The association has to admit more."

■ Alex Plabst, coach of the regional division SE Freising:

“Difficult question as to whether it is still understandable that no contact sports are allowed until April 18th.

It's a tough decision.

You are always smarter afterwards.

I also find it difficult to ask whether the season should be played to the end.

For reasons of fairness alone, yes.

From a sporting point of view, it would be fairer to decide it this way and not with the quotient rule.

What I see very critically is that allegedly only three weeks of preparation are planned - the association has to admit more.

The question is also whether a BFV official would be responsible for this.

There should be a certain responsibility towards the clubs and players in relation to injuries - especially with clubs that are still about something.

We can afford to protect our players.

The results would be of secondary importance in a possible rest of the season. ”

Ms

■ Gerhard Lösch, coach of the district league club TSV Eching:

“Two or three weeks ago I had a good feeling, but now everything boils down to ending the season.

With three weeks of preparation - that is the absolute minimum - and in our case six more games, you would have to start in the last week of April at the latest to be ready by June 30th.

However, there are also teams that have seven or eight games left.

That is not feasible.

Above all, I don't see that we can play any time soon.

Due to the quotient rule, we would fall back to second place behind Schwaig.

I don't think the rule is entirely fair.

For example, we would still have Schwaig in a direct duel - and there are teams with easier and harder remaining programs.

That distorts.

In the event of a break off, I would like the boys to be able to move up to the direct promotion place and relegation rank.

And that there is also no relegation. ”

One hopes that it will start, one prepares oneself mentally - and then comes the next rejection.

Coach Sepp Summerer from SVA Palzing

■ Sepp Summerer, coach of the district league club SVA Palzing:

“If you can start on April 20th, it could be enough for a preparation and for the rest of the games.

I think they'll cancel the league cup first.

In any case, the fairest solution would be to go through with the season.

You'd have to somehow get seven games over the stage.

The question is, of course, what happens to the relegation?

The situation is extraordinary.

One hopes that it will start, one prepares oneself mentally - and then comes the next rejection.

You get a little bit desperate.

However, I am sure that the association will make an effort. ”

Stm

■ Matthias Koston, coach of the district league team SpVgg Kammerberg:

“For me there are two solutions: Either you break off and start a new season.

Or you can do this round somehow - if necessary beyond June 30th.

From our point of view, the topic can be approached in a relaxed manner.

We have nothing to do with ascent or descent.

Of course, all coaches look through the club's glasses.

And I think that coaches from teams that are no longer concerned are more likely to plead for abandonment.

It is of course difficult for those who have to decide.

It would be nice if there was a clear line.

But I wouldn't think a season over two

or

three years would be cool. ”

Philipp Jordan (Allershausen): "We are as far along as a year ago - and we didn't have a vaccine yet."

© Association

■ Philipp Jordan, department head of the district league club TSV Allershausen:

“I had already thought that something like this would come out again.

That is simply without any prospects for amateur sport.

I think it would theoretically still be possible for the lower amateur classes to play the season to the end.

But now you need a specific goal that you can start with proper training in mid-April.

Otherwise, at some point it will be difficult to accommodate the season until June 30th.

For the higher amateur leagues this is no longer possible.

In the meantime, I have noticed a great deal of frustration among coaches and players in football.

This 'stir up hope little by little and then not again' has a grueling effect on amateur sport.

In the meantime, everyone just accepts it - the anticipation that it could finally start again has evaporated for most of them.

At the moment there is no perspective at all.

We're just as advanced as a year ago - and we didn't have to wear a mask or a vaccine.

Now we're twelve months ahead, and it's exactly the same.

No progress.

Not just in amateur sports, but in all areas.

It's frustrating. ”

Association should name a fixed, last possible restart date

■ Michael Rosenwirth, coach of the regional division FC Moosburg:

"The 2019/21 league is of course difficult and practically impossible to implement.

Because it cannot be assumed that we will be able to fully start training again from April 18th.

Then we are slowly running out of time to realistically accommodate the three weeks of preparation and seven game days with subsequent relegation.

I think the association made the right decision to set an end point for the current season on June 30th.

Another artificial extension of the old season would not be right.

If I could wish for something, it would be for the association to also name a fixed, last possible restart date.

Either full contact training

starts across

Bavaria from that point, or the season is declared over and you focus on the new season. ”

Jfu

■ Jan Strehlow, coach of the regional league soccer players of TSV Eching:

“The association should show how football can be played in a crisis.

Accordingly, the season should not be terminated prematurely in order to keep the competition open.

In our league, only a little more than half the games are through, so I don't think the season can end until June 30th.

Mainly because English weeks cannot be carried out due to the increased risk of injury.

It would make sense to let as many games take place as possible and to let the quotient rule apply at the end.

A season

extension

only makes sense if the beginning of the season is changed in the long term. ”
