Sepp Blatter was banned for the second time by Fifa for financial misconduct.

It applies to all football activities.

This was announced by the World Football Association.

The first ban on the 85-year-old ex-president would have expired in seven months.

The Fifa ethics committee has banned both Blatter and the former general secretary Jérôme Valcke for six years and eight months.

The investigation against Blatter and Valcke concerned various charges, notably in relation to bonus payments in connection with Fifa competitions paid to senior Fifa administrators, various changes and extensions of employment contracts.

The FIFA statement states that the adjudicatory chamber found that Blatter was guilty of violating Article 15 (loyalty), Article 19 (conflicts of interest) and Article 20 (offering and accepting gifts or other benefits) of the Code of Ethics .

Blatter and Valcke had previously been banned for six and ten years in separate cases.

Blatter's first ban will expire in October and Valcke's first ban will expire in October 2025.

The new locks become active when the current locks expire.

In the most recent case, the two ex-officials were fined one million Swiss francs each, which must be paid within 30 days.

Criminal proceedings are also ongoing in Switzerland against Blatter and Valcke.

In 2015, Valcke was initially banned for twelve years for violating the world association's ethical code on several points, before the sentence was reduced by two years.

At the time, he was charged with having been involved in the resale of World Cup tickets and not cooperating in the FIFA investigation.

He is now also accused of abuse of office.

Blatter has been in poor health recently and was placed in an artificial coma for a week after heart surgery in December.
