I have not lost sight of the tremendous success of the last three international judo tournaments held in Israel - the last of which was in the middle of the corona plague and has become the most successful tournament in world judo in recent times, with zero contagion and historical participation of Iranian judoka Said Moulay on Israeli soil. Captains of the International Judo Association.
Just before Passover, Israeli judo and sports as a whole received a wonderful and historic gift: the World Judo Championships in 2024 or 2025, according to the choice of the Israeli Judo Association, will be held in Tel Aviv.
They were recently notified by the Israeli Judo Association, where they are still debating whether to host the championship just before the Paris Olympics in 2024 or wait a year later, to allow all the world judo stars to reach the competition, which will probably take place at Yad Eliyahu and begin the journey towards Los Angeles Olympics 2028.
In 2023, the championship will be held in Qatar, and the goal is that a year later it will come to Israel to also mark the cooperation between the countries by having Israeli athletes compete in Qatar and Qatari athletes come to Israel.
Israel has never hosted a world judo championship, and this is the most prestigious Olympic event that Israel has hosted since its inception.
Meanwhile, the Israeli delegation continues to try and increase the list for the Tokyo Olympics.
The Tbilisi Grand Slam will kick off tomorrow (Friday) with a young delegation of Israelis, and at the Inbar Lanier Center (78 kg), who will try to continue in their excellent shape and take a significant and surprising step towards Tokyo.
