US soccer world champion Megan Rapinoe has again spoken out in favor of equal pay.
Together with her teammate Margaret Purce, she accepted an invitation from US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden to Washington to address a congressional committee.
Despite her many sporting successes, she was devalued and not respected, "because I'm a woman," said Rapinoe on Wednesday.
"I'm still paid less than men who do the same job."
President Biden said it was an honor for him and Jill Biden to be able to speak to the women soccer players.
That would make them "heroes" in the eyes of the granddaughters.
Joe Biden called for equal pay for women and men at the joint appearance in the White House and spoke out for more transparency in salaries in the free economy.
First Lady Jill Biden shared her experience of being paid less than her male colleagues as a teacher despite doing the same job.
"There's not a single thing a man can do that a woman can't do as well or better," said Joe Biden.
The Democrat Biden had already supported the US world champions around Rapinoe during the election campaign in their fight for equal pay as the men's national team.
In May of last year, the then candidate wrote on Twitter: “Equal pay, now.
Otherwise you can look elsewhere for World Cup funding when I'm president. "
