Absolutely furious!

Author of a rather mixed match, Cristiano Ronaldo thought to catch up with his performance by offering the victory goal in Portugal this Saturday against Serbia (2-2) in Belgrade.

In the 90 + 4th minute, he dribbles past the goalkeeper and sends the ball towards the goal but Mitrovic manages to tackle the leather at his line.

The referee of the meeting, the Dutchman Danny Makkelie, does not give the goal to the Portuguese who will therefore not be able to do better than 2-2.

The slow motion ultimately proved the referee wrong, but neither Goal-Line Technology nor VAR were active that evening.

A refused goal which had the gift of provoking a black anger of the five-time Ballon d'Or.

The latter will first violently protest in the direction of the assistant referee.

A manifestation of mood that will earn him a yellow card.

Following this warning, Cristiano Ronaldo decides to leave the field, a few seconds before the referee whistles the end of the match.

As he leaves, he throws his captain's armband to the ground with a gesture of exasperation.

Cristiano Ronaldo walked off the pitch before the final whistle at the end of the Serbia-Portugal game, and threw his captain's armband in frustration.

After this event, Portugal coach Fernando Santos said Danny Makkelie came to apologize after learning about his mistake.

“The referee apologized to me in the locker room and told me he was embarrassed.

He told me in the field that he was going to see the images and that if he was wrong, he would come and apologize.

And it was.

[...] Referees are human and make mistakes, but that's why there is VAR and goal line technology to prevent that.

We scored a goal that was not validated when the ball entered, in a match of this level it is not possible ”.
