Title race, posters: the tour of the European championships this weekend

2021-04-02T09:22:33.184Z

An attractive Leicester-Manchester City followed by Arsenal-Liverpool, via Germany with Bayern Munich against RB Leipzig or Spain (Seville-Atlético Madrid), several meetings will be decisive a few days from the end of this season 2020-2021.

  • Premier League: Manchester City alone in the lead, the race for Europe more than undecided

While Manchester City rushes towards the Premier League title (14 points ahead of Manchester United), nothing has yet been decided among the rest of the European places.

At the dawn of the 30th day of the championship, several shocks await us this weekend.

First, Saturday at 6.30 p.m., Leicester (3rd) welcomes the Citizens, a poster where the Foxes will have to try to keep the gap (currently five points) with Chelsea (4th).

Thomas Tuchel's side will have the opportunity to put the pressure on by playing against West Brom earlier today (1:30 p.m.).

Another poster from 9 p.m. this Saturday: Arsenal (9th) receives Liverpool (7th) with the ambition for these two historic clubs to save a very complicated season.

If the Reds are only four lengths from a qualifying place for the Champions League, the Gunners, 9 points, seem far too far to try to snatch this precious sesame in the home stretch.

13 - Chelsea are unbeaten in their first 13 games in all competitions under Thomas Tuchel, the best start for a Blues coach in club history.

  • Liga: Three contenders for the title

The end of the international break gives way again to the thrilling La Liga race between Atlético Madrid (1st), FC Barcelona (2nd) and Real Madrid (3rd).

Only 6 points separate the two Madrid formations, the Catalan club being installed in ambush (4 lengths from the Colchoneros).

The 29th day of the championship reserves the greatest adversity for Diego Simeone's men who will travel to Sevilla FC (4th).

This Sunday evening poster (9 p.m.) will be a first step towards the title race as the competitors are getting ready to spend a quieter weekend.

The Merengue have an appointment against Eibar (18th) on Saturday at 4.15pm while the Blaugranas will challenge Valladolid (16th) on Monday (9pm).

Note that Granada (8th) receives Villarreal (7th) for a European place, the fifth synonym of the Europa League or the sixth, which offers a ticket for the Europa Conference League, the new competition which will appear next season.

  • Bundesliga: Leipzig may cast doubt on Bavarian supremacy

Matchday 27 of the Bundesliga has a crucial title race match between Bayern Munich (1st) and RB Leipzig (2nd) this Saturday at 6.30pm.

Only four lengths separate the two formations, knowing that the men of Julian Nagelsmann seem the only ones capable of dethroning the Bavarian club, in search of a ninth consecutive trophy in the league.

Behind, the European places are undecided.

Wolfsburg (3rd), a real outsider at the start of the season, does not falter, the formation of Oliver Glasner intends to grab a place in the Champions League, starting with a good match against Cologne (16th) this Saturday.

The second poster of this German weekend concerns Frankfurt, the fourth which moves on the lawn of Dortmund, fifth Saturday at 15:30.

Erling Haaland's teammates have the opportunity to get closer to their opponent for a qualifying place for the C1, four points behind the two clubs.

The health authorities of the city of Leipzig did not agree to a reduction in the quarantine period.

  • Serie A: Juventus, far from the title, can still lose everything

Unlike the situation in Germany, the domination of Juventus in Italy is seriously threatened because of the revival of a club: Inter Milan.

The formation of Antonio Conte has six points ahead of its rival, AC Milan and ten over the Old Lady, champion nine times in a row since 2012. The 29th day of Serie A does not reserve a clash between top clubs of the table, apart from Sassuolo (8th) opposed to AS Roma (6th).

The interist leader travels to Bologna (11th), Zlatan Ibrahimovic's teammates receive Sampdoria (10th) while Juventus will face their local rival, Torino (17th) for a derby.

If the title is seriously complicated for the teammates of Cristiano Ronaldo, it will still be necessary to treat the end of the season to avoid a disappointment since nine points separate the second (AC Milan) from the sixth (AS Rome).

Naples (5th) and Atalanta (4th) closely follow the defending champion.

  • Liga NOS: Sporting to make history

A revolution is underway in Liga NOS, on the side of Portugal.

With ten days remaining, Sporting are the only leaders in the lead with ten points ahead of their pursuer, defending champion FC Porto.

If we stop there, it would be a first that a club other than the Dragons or Benfica has won the championship since .. 2002!

The last time, it was already Sporting ahead of Boavista and Porto.

As for the 25th day this weekend, the leader will play on the field of Moreirense (8th) on Monday evening (10pm), while Porto (2nd) welcomes Santa Clara (7th) on Saturday at 9.30pm.

Sergio Conceiçao's players are not guaranteed to play in the C1 (two qualifying places in Portugal) because Benfica (3rd) and Braga (4th) are on the lookout, with respectively only three and four points behind.

The first faces Maritimo (16th) while the second will go to the lawn of SC Farense (15th) on the occasion of this new day.

If Sporting heads straight for the title, the suspense is still total in Liga NOS, at the dawn of the final sprint!
