Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund after bankruptcy against Eintracht Frankfurt: A lot of frustration

Frankfurt celebrates the »Eintracht-Tag«, Borussia Dortmund worries about the Champions League and thus Erling Haaland's whereabouts. The anger over the failure of Marco Reus was particularly evident.

Adi Hütter congratulated the soccer players of the Frankfurt club, who had reached the final of the DFB-Pokal in the afternoon.

Only then did the coach praise his men who, with a 2-1 win at Borussia Dortmund, have made “a bigger step” on their way to the Champions League.

The trainer spoke of a "Eintracht day".

A subtle celebration should even have been included, at least for the national players of the various national teams, because Hütter gave them two days of Easter rest after their international trips.

His coaching colleague Edin Terzić does not have this option, BVB will take the plane to England on Monday lunchtime, one day later the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League at Manchester City (9 p.m., live ticker SPIEGEL.de).

Much suggests the last trip in the European elite league for more than a year.

The leaders of the Premier League are the clear favorites against BVB, and the Dortmunders hardly believe that they will qualify for the Champions League again via the Bundesliga, now seven points behind.

“We're way back now.

In principle, you have to win every game to have a chance, ”said sports director Michael Zorc, who was deeply disappointed in his voice.

“I was expecting a better performance.

We were too flawed, ”Zorc criticized.

Where on the way, Haaland?

Since the conversation was conducted by the company's own media department, and it was benevolent, the sports director was spared the question, which now arises all the more: What happens to Erling Haaland if BVB should miss the Champions League?

Theoretically, the club could take the center forward from the transfer market in the summer, because the release clause in his contract, which is valid until 2024, will only take effect in 2022. But the Dortmunders avoid an ultimate statement, they only emphasize that they are also planning with Haaland in the coming season.

Maybe they could use the million dollar transfer from his sale.

Zorc took it calmly that his father Alf-Inge and agent Mino Raiola flew to Spain last week to speak to representatives of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The effect of such a trip, however, can not prevent even casual slogans ("Doesn't speak against it, if the two gentlemen want to soak up the sun in the Mediterranean.").

And so it seems that Haaland is already planning to leave.

He could have countered this impression with goals, but he missed three chances, one of them from the highest category.

André Silva, who headed Eintracht to victory in the 87th minute, now has 22 goals on the season account - one more than Haaland.

BVB scored against Frankfurt's Mats Hummels, who has so far scored four goals this season and has already achieved more than any of his colleagues from midfield.

Marco Reus, for example, has only shot three, and when he graduated on Saturday there was little risk that it would be one more.

There were also some bad passes by the captain, some wrong decisions when it came to deciding on a pass or a shot.

It was understandable that coach Edin Terzic replaced him in the 80th minute.

That Reus was disappointed about it, too.

The fact that he snuck across the pitch in such an eminently important game with a score of 1: 1, on the other hand, hardly seemed understandable.

It may have only taken a few seconds, but here, too, it is the effect that does more harm than good.

After a good phase, especially with the victory in the Champions League at Sevilla FC, BVB believed they were on the right track again.

The fact that he only won against Schalke 04, Arminia Bielefeld and Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga went under.

A table that only takes into account the games of the best nine teams in the Bundesliga among themselves (as of Saturday, 5.30 p.m.) looks very bad for BVB: In eleven games against these top nine, he has only scored ten points with a negative one Goal difference.

The effects of a season without the premier class could be fatal, as Hummels revealed in an interview with “Sky”: “Not reaching the Champions League would be a sporting and financial catastrophe.

We're close. «Especially in the Corona year without income from ticketing.

The central defender also spoke about Haaland, albeit without naming him: Logically, this (missing the Champions League, d. Ed.) Has financial consequences and it may be that you can't buy someone you want and have to sell one that one wants to hold. "
