In the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund suffered a setback in the battle for the Champions League places against Eintracht Frankfurt.

At the other end of the table, Mainz 05 only scored one point against the penultimate Arminia Bielefeld in the relegation battle despite leading.

In the game between fourth and fifth, Borussia Dortmund lost further ground to the Champions League places against Eintracht Frankfurt.

After the 1: 2 (1: 1), Dortmund are already seven points behind the first place in the Champions League.

Early on it had already looked like the Dortmunders had a used day.

A cross from Frankfurt's Filip Kostic from the left hit the Dortmund defender's head in a duel between Nico Schulz and André Silva.

The ball flew with an arc lamp over keeper Marwin Hitz into the far corner (11th minute);

a strange own goal.

At first things didn't go much better at the front either, star attacker Erling Haaland forgave only in front of Frankfurt's goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (25th).

Shortly before half-time, the equalizer succeeded, Emre Can let a corner drip from his chest, Mats Hummels pushed through von Trapp's legs from a short distance (45th).

Although Dortmund showed a good performance in the second half, they were lucky that the winning goal from Frankfurt was denied by Stefan Ilsanker because of an offside position (67th);

who fell through Silva in the 87th minute!

In the 1: 1 (0: 0) against Bielefeld, Mainz 05 received a compensation that was painful in two respects.

In the event of a win, the Mainz team would have been able to pull away from the relegation ranks, so only two points remain until the relegation zone.

Mainz had dominated the game for long stretches, Robert Glatzel (11th) and Leandro Barreiro (16th) gave the best chances.

For the Mainz leadership it took a penalty, which Joakim Nilsson owed with a foul on Jonathan Burkhardt, Daniel Brosinski converted placed (55th).

But it wasn't enough for the victory: Andreas Voglsammer shot a free kick from around 20 meters between the legs of Mainz's Stefan Bell, who was standing in the wall.

The ricochet took directly - and hit Bell's extended misfortune in the right corner (76th).

How long would it take the bottom of the table from Gelsenkirchen to fall behind this time?

The answer: 26 minutes.

Then Leverkusen's Lucas Alario only had to insert after a strong preparatory work by Kerem Demirbay.

Previously, S04 had missed its mandatory opportunity in the early stages.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar headed over the Bayer goal in the 11th minute.

The 37-year-old Dutchman was in the starting line-up for the first time after his return, while Shkodran Mustafi, who was also signed during the winter break, was not even in the squad.

According to the club, "sporting reasons" were the reason for this, while the other colleague William, who was also missing, was "disciplinary".

Patrik Schick increased to 2-0 in the 72nd minute.

It was the Czech's ninth goal of the season.

Huntelaar shortened to 1: 2 in the 81st minute, it was his first Bundesliga goal in just under four years.

Leverkusen's coach Hannes Wolf was able to celebrate a victory on his debut as the successor to Peter Bosz, while Schalke coach Dimitrios Grammozis saw his first own goal in his fourth game.

In the duel of the Champions League candidate VfL Wolfsburg against Kellerkind 1. FC Köln, it was surprisingly the guests who showed the better playing structure and had the best opportunity in the first half: In the 14th minute, FC captain Jonas Hector met after preparatory work from Noah Katterbach only the crossbar.

The best opportunity for VfL was missed in the 33rd minute by Xaver Schlager, whose shot just missed Timo Horn's goal.

At the beginning of the second round, the hosts intensified their offensive efforts, but could not bring the Cologne defense into a mess - until the 69th minute.

Wout Weghorst, who had been pale up until then, dug his way against several opponents, the ball came to Josip Brekalo, who hit from the left-hand position.

With the 1-0 win, Wolfsburg took the opportunity to get an important three-point in the race for a place in the premier class, the Cologne team missed a possible surprise point in the relegation battle.

The two teams were seven and eight points ahead of the relegation spot before kick-off.

The important distancing threesome towards the table cellar got Hoffenheim.

The two goals fell on the same principle: The Hoffenheim team, who had a lot of possession, lost the ball well in front of their own goal and let themselves be countered.

Ruben Vargas made it 1-0 (8th minute) with a left-footed shot from 16 meters, André Hahn scored to make it 2-0 after he started well in his own half but could not be stopped (23rd).

Hoffenheim's trainer Sebastian Hoeneß brought in new offensive personnel and switched to a 3-4-3 system, but these changes did not bring anything countable until late.

Ihlas Bebou initially missed the greatest chance for the next goal in the 80th minute, when he only hit the side netting from close range.

It then required a forceful shot by Robert Skov, who hit the crossbar with a left-footed shot (85th).
