Prosecutors in the case of the death of Davida Astori, former Fiorentina captain about 3 years ago, are requesting that the actor's doctor - Giorgio Galanti - be sentenced to 18 months in prison for the murder.
As a reminder, Astori was found dead in his hotel room after a cardiac arrest on March 4, 2018 ahead of a game against Udinese at the age of 31.
At the time of Astori's death, Galanti was medical director of the Center for Sports Medicine at Careggi University Hospital in Florence.
The lawsuit disputes the issuance of two different certificates by Galanti verifying Astori's fitness to play football: one was produced in July 2016 and the other in July 2017. The lawsuit alleges that Astori got rid of the diagnosis failure given to him and blames the doctor.
In a technical consultation conducted by experts on behalf of the prosecution it was found that both certificates were issued despite the appearance of arrhythmias in pressure tests, which should have forced doctors to perform more in-depth diagnostic tests.
Further tests were needed to rule out heart disease.
If it was diagnosed at an early stage it could interfere with Astori's cardiac activity, and through a prescription, slow down the disease and prevent the onset of malignant ventricular arrhythmias.
