Liverpool FC had an important success in the fight for the Champions League places.

At Arsenal FC, which also fell short of expectations this season, Jürgen Klopp's team won 3-0 (0-0).

For a good hour, the Reds dominated the game without getting a hit.

The best chance was missed by James Milner, who shot the ball just wide of the goal in the 37th minute.

After 62 minutes, Klopp made the decisive change: He brought on Diogo Jota for Andrew Robertson, who gave the Reds the lead in the 64th minute.

From the right wing, Trent Alexander-Arnold brought a sharp cross into the six-yard box, where the Portuguese headed Bernd Leno in the Arsenal goal with no chance of defense.

The hosts now shocked and beaten a few minutes later: Mohamed Salah increased to 2-0 (69th minute).

Jota marked the 3-0 final score in the 83rd minute.

It was his eighth goal of the season in the 13th game.

After the win and the surprising 2: 5 defeat of FC Chelsea against West Brom, Liverpool are moving up to two points to Chelsea, which was coached by Thomas Tuchel and is currently in fourth place in the Champions League.

The front runner remains Manchester City, which won the third Leicester City 2-0 (0-0).

On Tuesday (9 p.m.) Liverpool will play the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League at Real Madrid.

Arsenal FC is currently ninth and with nine points behind the Blues has only realistic chances of playing in the premier class by winning the Europa League in the coming season.

To do this, the Gunners must first clear Slavia Prague out of the way in the quarter-finals.

The first leg will take place in London on Thursday (9 p.m.).
