Resigned, the president of Dijon admits: "This season, we do not deserve much"

2021-04-03T15:34:34.008Z

Before the displacement of the Dijon red lantern in Marseille, Olivier Delcourt, its president, spoke at length to AFP on a season which should end with relegation.

Can Dijon still believe in maintaining?

Olivier Delcourt:

With 15 points and two victories eight days from the end, miracles, we want to believe it ... We have already experienced one, two years ago with the maintenance in play-offs against Lens.

You have to deserve things.

Frankly, this season we don't deserve much.

What do you attribute this failure to?

The fall has started since this maintenance against Lens.

There has been some slackening at all levels of the club.

This can be explained because the season had been complicated.

Then there was a big delay in recruiting and we went through the same thing this season.

Some departed cadres have not been replaced.

There is certainly also an end of the cycle.

We have probably not anticipated things sufficiently.

I have my share of responsibilities, I wanted to change things in order to improve but it didn't work.

How do you see this looming relegation?

Relegation is never easy but it hurts me more for the Dijonnais, the supporters who cannot go to the match, the employees, the partners.

I hope everyone can come back to the stadium, in Ligue 2. When I was appointed president (in 2012), we had five great seasons there.

It is a beautiful championship which is that of the DFCO whose place is between 15th place in Ligue 1 and 15th in L2.

Of course, we don't like to see his club as it is this season.

I'm not proud of it, I've told the players several times.

Those primarily responsible are the actors on the ground and some have not done the right thing.

Since the match lost in Lorient (3-2), I found it a bit easy to give up.

It annoys me.

Did the appointment of David Linarès as coach seem beneficial?

Yes, it seemed playable.

There has been a revival.

But more than a lack of character, I rather noted a lack of professionalism.

It is tiring on a daily basis for managers, coaches or employees.

It happens to have a bad season and you have to use that to bounce back.

“There are eight games left, I hope we don't end with eight losses.

I hope the players will show a little pride and from Sunday in Marseille. ”

How to end the season?

There are eight games left, I hope we don't end with eight losses.

I hope the players will show a little pride and from Sunday in Marseille.

If you can't get the jersey wet when you play Sunday at 9:00 p.m., that's even worse than anything.

Will the coach be confirmed?

He still has two years of contract.

He passes his coaching diploma which implies a heavy workload.

We're going to build a squad around him.

I will announce our new director of recruiting early next week.

What may be the extra-sporting consequences for the DFCO?

The most important impact, and for all clubs, is that of the failure of Mediapro.

Our estimated budget was 45 million euros, and in the end it will be 22-23 million.

The budgets have always been established each season with in mind that we can play in L1 or L2.

Finances are in the green.

There will be no layoffs.

In June, we will inaugurate our new training center for the pros and a year later the new training center.

The club is young and we are moving forward.

But we won't have any excuses next season.

We have a head start to organize our recruitment.

The estimated budget could be 16-18 million.

We would have a goal of going up within three years.

Less if you can, but above all you have to relive a beautiful story, because it is the most important human adventure.

That's what we've been missing this season.
