Alexander-Arnold excelled in Liverpool's 0-3 win over Arsenal last weekend.

The right defender cooked the first goal for Diego Jote, started the move with 0: 2 of Muhammad Salah and it was his abduction that led to the Portuguese's 0: 3.

Beyond that, he was involved in almost every good offensive action of the Reds, and with a little more precision from his teammates he would have finished the game with more than one cooking.

"Wonderful Display" was described by his coach Jürgen Klopp;

"Sharp, hungry and focused" were the words another team member chose.

The timing of this show attests to anyone who knows Alexander-Arnold, is no accident.

Beyond the fact that this game took place three days before tonight’s Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid, it was the first game after the right-back remained out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

He saw the three World Cup qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland from home, and it was clear to his acquaintances that the free time he received would be used to his advantage.

Alexander-Arnold harshly accepted the fact that Kyle Walker, Reese James and Kieran Trifaire were preferred over him in the last international window before Euro 2020, which is why it was so important for him to come back from the national team back with an unequivocal statement.

"There is no doubt that this time has done him good," Klopp testified this week.

Liverpool defenders paid a price

Although, like all Liverpool players, Alexander-Arnold experienced a certain decline in ability this season, Southgate's decision not to call him up was particularly surprising.

One can argue about his defensive abilities in relation to the other invitees in the right-back position, but there is no doubt that Liverpool's is the most diverse, special and high-quality of them all.

"He's the best England have," stated Mika Richards;

"It has everything a modern right-wing defender needs."

Jürgen Klopp has really managed to turn his defender into a kind of game-maker running on the right line, but it turns out that Southgate prefers a right-back of yesteryear.

Less adventurous, more restrained.

"I respect Gareth and his decisions of course, but I really do not understand the decision not to summon him," the German German manager said this week.

"For the last two years Alexander-Arnold has been the best right-back in the world. That's the truth, and even at such a young age."

This is probably one of Alexander-Arnold's problems.

The continuum he himself has set in recent years has been so high that the current season does not meet standards.

The jute cooking on Saturday was his first overall since January and the fourth season in the Premier League, far less than the 13 he had last season.

The numbers indicate a decline, but Liverpool are convinced that this is due to the situation.

It should be remembered that Liverpool have lost their brakes this season one after another, and naturally the defenders are paying a heavy price.

Alexander-Arnold, just like Andy Robertson, is much less offensive following the situation, so it is not surprising to find that they both cook less than last season and Liverpool are less good.

Still, there is room for optimism.

The victory against Arsenal was the third in a row for the Reds, in all of which they also kept a clean sheet.

"We defend much better as a team and that gives us a basis to play," Klopp recently admitted, and when Liverpool play Alexander-Arnold also comes into play.

Against Arsenal, fresh and fresh thanks to Southgate's decision, the defender has provided one of his best games of the season.

Alexander-Arnold took out nerves and frustration and made sure to make the point clear.

"He showed his tremendous qualities," Klopp said at the end of the 0: 3 over the Gunners;

"He's in great shape, and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong."

With this approach, the 22-year-old defender arrives for tonight's important meeting against Real.

Determined to prove, hungry to correct the impression to change Southgate's decision.

Against Arsenal it worked great, and if it works tonight Liverpool will still have to thank the England national team coach for being able to re-fax the best English right-back of them all.
