De Bruyne has made more than 250 appearances for the club since arriving from Wolfsburg in 2015.
The midfielder is on his way to winning a third Premier League championship, and yesterday scored the first goal in the Citizens' 2-1 win over Dortmund in the first game of the Champions League quarter-final.
The Belgian explained that one of the reasons why he decided to sign the new contract is the extension of manager Pep Guardiola's earlier this season.
"Pep and I see football the same way," he said, "it's important to have such a relationship with a coach because we are completely coordinated in terms of our goals, we want the same things."
