Liverpool FC sharply criticized the racist slurs against Trent Alexander-Arnold, Naby Keita and Sadio Mané on Wednesday.

The trio had been denigrated on social media after the 1: 3 (0: 2) in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League at Real Madrid.

“Unfortunately, the morning after a soccer game, we are again discussing hideous racist insults.

This is absolutely unacceptable and has to stop, ”said the Reds.

Liverpool condemn "all forms of discrimination" and demands consequences.

“As a club, we offer our players all the support they need.

We will also work with the relevant authorities to identify those responsible and, if possible, prosecute, "it continued:" We know this will not be enough until the social media platforms and the regulators who monitor them , take the greatest possible preventive measures. ”The current situation could not go on:“ And it is up to all of us to ensure that this is not the case. ”

The criticism of social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram had recently become louder.

At the end of January, Manchester United professional Marcus Rashford positioned himself publicly on Twitter after the 22-year-old had repeatedly been the target of racist insults.

The former world-class striker and current coach Thierry Henry had only withdrawn from social media at the end of March and accused the platforms of doing too little against "the sheer extent of racism".
