Hounded on the lawns, racist and offensive insults continue to proliferate on social networks.

After the mishap experienced by Mouctar Diakhaby during the Valencia-Cadiz match in La Liga on Sunday, three players from Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mané and Naby Keïta, complained on Wednesday of being targeted on social networks, after the defeat of the Reds against Real Madrid (3-1), in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League on Tuesday night in Spain.

Arnold received monkey emojis under his latest Instagram post, while similar slurs were directed at Mané and Keïta.

In a statement posted in particular on Twitter, the Liverpool club expressed its excitement and its intention not to stop there.

"Once again, unfortunately we are talking about heinous racist insults the day after a football match," the statement said.

This is totally unacceptable and it must stop.

As a club, we will provide our players with all the support they need.

We will also work with the appropriate authorities to identify, and if possible, prosecute individuals.

"

It is utterly unacceptable.

It has to stop.

By the way, Liverpool calls on social networks to be more responsible: “We know it will not be enough until the strongest possible preventive measures are taken by social networks and the regulatory bodies that run them.

"

Last week, Thierry Henry announced that he was closing all of his social media accounts.

"Until the people in power are able to regulate their platforms with the same vigor and the same ferocity as when users infringe copyright," explained the top scorer of the France team.

The enormous volume of racism, harassment and mental torture that results from it to individuals is too toxic to ignore.
