Former football player Philip Adams shot and killed five people in South Carolina today (Thursday), committing suicide in the wake of a severe and deadly shooting incident.

Adams was 32 at the time of his death.

The dead are Dr. Robert Leslie, 70, his wife Barbara, 69, and two of their grandchildren: 9-year-old Edda and 5-year-old Noah. Also killed was James Lewis, 38, who worked at the family home. Patients In the United States, it is reported that Adams' parents live near the doctor's home, and that he has previously treated him.



Adams has played 78 games in the NFL, on six teams over five seasons.

He was selected by San Francisco in the 2010 draft. He also played in New England, Seattle, Atlanta, Auckland and the New York Jets.

He finished his career in Atlanta in 2015.



In his rookie season he underwent ankle surgery, and did not return to play, until he was released from San Francisco.

The following season he suffered two concussions in three games in the Auckland uniform.

Today his father said after the tragedy: "I can say he was a good boy, he was always a good boy, I think football knocked him out. He did not talk much."
