The new head of the TSV Erding department focuses on the next generation.

The contract with coach Thomas Vogl has been extended.

Erding - The "golden vintages" 1985 to 1990 of the Erdinger ice hackers, who were formed under Hans Huber and Franz Steer and now form the tribe of the gladiators, are slowly getting on in years.

The 2000s should actually move up by now, but too many young boys have not made the leap lately.

Bastian Cramer (2000) is currently the only constant among the gladiators.

So far, other young players have not made it beyond short appearances.

This is to change now.

"We are strategically setting the youth work on a new footing and resolving the previously existing one-way street situation, which makes it very difficult for young players to make the leap into the first team," says the new ice hockey department manager Michael Westphal.

With gladiators coach Thomas Vogl, the full-time TSV junior trainer Stefan Teufel and the proven trainer Robert Steinmann, the department management has worked out the new support concept, according to Westphal with the aim: "Erding should be a talent factory again."

The first step was to extend the contract with Thomas Vogl.

He will also be behind the Gladiators gang in the 2021/22 season.

"I'm looking forward to the new season and working with the new head of department," says the coach and enthuses: "I think we'll start a new era with the head of department - and I want to be a part of it." The year-old explains confidently: “Our sporting goals are not over yet.

I want to pursue ambitious goals with the team.

In the last two years, due to the pandemic, we haven't been able to show what's in the team. ”He very much hopes that the season can go back to normal.

"The last two years have been very tough for both players and coaches because we couldn't show what we could have done," emphasizes Vogl.

The U20 team, the direct substructure of the gladiators, will be taken over by 44-year-old Robert Steinmann, who has played almost 400 games in the Erdinger jersey during his playing days.

He's already had the U20s, which compete in the Bayernliga, under his wing, but was the U17 coach last season.

According to the department head, the specialty is “the joint training concept between the U 20 Young Gladiators and the senior team, because the U 20 players are divided into three perspective player groups”.

From the beginning of the new season, the players in Group 1 will be regularly involved in the training of the 1st team.

Vogl, Steinmann and Teufel "have agreed on a common strategy that includes various points for integrating the youth players," said the TSV department management.

These are checked in a joint exchange at certain times and continuously adjusted.

"All three pursue the goal of drawing the U 20 players into permanent components of the Gladiators team in the coming years and deploying them." It is important that "the focus is on the performance concept and maximum sporting success of the senior team".

Vogl explains in this context, "that we want to keep the tribe, but will downsize the squad so that the young players have more opportunities to play their part".

The team will by no means become weaker, "because there will be one or two reinforcements," announced the gladiator's coach.
