HSV could have gambled away its good starting position in the promotion of the second division. Due to the bankruptcy against Darmstadt 98, Hamburg no longer have the promotion six game days before the end of the season in their own hands.

Hamburger SV threatens to slip from a promotion place in the 2nd Bundesliga.

Against Darmstadt 98, HSV surprisingly lost 1: 2 (0: 0).

Erich Berko (51st minute) and Serdar Dursun (60th) scored for the Darmstadt team, Jeremy Dudziak only managed the connection goal (77th).

Six game days before the end of the season, Hamburg remain second with 50 points, but have one game more than the tied third, Greuther Fürth.

The Friday evening game of the Fürth was canceled due to the corona quarantine of SV Sandhausen.

The Hamburgers had a hard time against low guests.

Despite having a lot of possession, the hosts had problems creating top-class scoring opportunities.

If they made it in front of the goal, they failed like Manuel Wintzheimer because of Darmstadt's goalkeeper Marcel Schschuhe (20th).

On the other side, Victor Palsson put a header just over the goal (24th).

The best opportunity to take the lead in the first half had striker Simon Terodde, Schuhe parried the shot from close range with his foot (45th + 1).

Another tee of shoes

Even shortly after the break, Terodde had the Hamburg lead on the foot (48th), but the first goal came three minutes later on the other side.

After a long tee of shoes, Mathias Honsak fit into the middle, Berko scored (60th).

The 0: 2 was even more bitter for HSV - Dursun dropped the ball after a deflected cross in front of his feet (77th).

HSV managed to catch up, but it wasn't enough to equalize in an exciting final phase.

It is the next point loss for HSV, last week coach Daniel Thioune's team lost a 3-0 lead at Hannover 96.

Because of Sandhausen's quarantine, Hamburg will have no play in the coming week, then Fürth can pass.

Holstein Kiel could even let HSV slip to fourth place with four points behind and two games less.

In the remaining six games, HSV only plays against teams from the lower half of the table, with the exception of Karlsruher SC.

However, this also included the table twelfth Darmstadt.
