The desire to create a closed European Superleague is not new, excluding PSG from it a little more.
While UEFA meets on April 19 to establish the next version of the Champions League from 2024, the European Superleague project is still in the pipeline.
And according to information from
L'Equipe
, the latest version of the project would not include Paris Saint-Germain.
A true sea serpent for several years, the closed league project has seen several forms over the leaks in the press.
But none excluded PSG until then.
According to the sports daily, this voluntary omission of the last finalist of the Champions League is rooted in the reluctance of Nasser al-Khelaïfi to publicly support the project.
Conversely, the president of the capital club would campaign for a stronger Champions League.
The reform initiated by UEFA would go in this direction, with a move from 32 to 36 clubs, which would also make the good accounts of the French championship, while four Ligue 1 clubs could potentially take part in the most prestigious of club competitions.

Ajax and Porto cited as guest clubs
Renowned close to Alexander Ceferin, the boss of UEFA naturally hostile to any Superleague project, the Qatari would thus see a sidelining of his club, in a closed league where the best clubs from the four major European championships would appear ( Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, Liga).
In addition, alongside the big historic clubs such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Bayern and Juventus, whose influential president Andrea Agnelli is one of the instigators of the project, the organizers would distribute invitation cards to teams from minor championships, such as Ajax Amsterdam and FC Porto, the only two clubs not from the five major leagues to have reached the semi-finals of C1 in the 21st century.
While decision-makers, including the ECA (Association of European Clubs) chaired by Agnelli, worked in the greatest secrecy to decide on an official format for their parallel competition, the
Bloomberg
agency
revealed in early January that JPMorgan bank was also working on financial outlines of this future competition.
So many signs if necessary that the idea continues to gain ground in European football, where only the big ones would finally find their account with this championship.
And without integrating it, PSG - like Ligue 1 - would inevitably lose attractiveness.
