In Monte-Carlo, this Sunday in April looks like back to school.

Like Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic is back on the circuit after a two-month break to treat an abdominal injury.

The world No. 1, who lives in the Principality and can stay at home during the competition while respecting a health protocol, has not reappeared since his victory at the Australian Open.

“I've already been used to going a few weeks or months without playing and that's not a problem,” explains the Serbian.

Ever since I retired from the Miami Masters 1000, I've been banging here on earth.

It's practical and I feel good.

Physically, I am ready.

Mentally, I missed tennis during these two months without competition.

I can't wait to play my first game.

Apart from a few (very) well-known faces in front of him on the court, Djokovic will have a hard time making a difference with his routine in the last few weeks during the event.

Behind closed doors requires, the site is almost deserted.

The stands of the Central have barely been assembled to accommodate ... tarpaulins.

"It will obviously be a different feeling," sighs the double winner of the Monaco Masters 1000 (2013 and 2015).

Usually, courts are condemned for the village, the sponsors and it is difficult for many to reserve a slot.

There are so many people that you can't even walk around.

On the clay on the Riviera, Djokovic will not have time to dawdle.

He could thus start against the Italian Jannik Sinner, a real scarecrow of the last weeks and recent finalist in Miami.

Already a nice test.

“His trajectory is very impressive and he is also a good person,” he observes.

He works hard, he is dedicated to tennis and he is very ambitious.

Despite what he has achieved, he is not satisfied.

He wants more and it's good to see his appetite… ”

While his neighbor on the Rock and runner-up at ATP Daniil Medvedev considers the postponement of Roland Garros for a week to be “ridiculous”, the boss is more measured.

“It's hard to say if it's a good decision or not, he tempers.

I'm not at the FFT or the French government to find out what's going on in Paris.

There are things that we have to accept, hoping that the tournament will be played in the end.

Last year, it was cold, it is the first time that we were to play Roland Garros in October in such special conditions.

This time it will only be moved by a week.

From a Grand Slam perspective, it was the right thing to do because they think to themselves.

Afterwards, ATP tournaments will suffer from that… ”
