It can still get better: Martina Demmel has again provided a highlight in Oliana, Spain.

The woman from Böbingen recently climbed a route with the degree of difficulty 9a.

Böbing / Oliana - Martina Demmel ensures top performances non-stop in Oliana, Spain.

The 19-year-old from Böbing recently caused a sensation in the scene when she climbed a route of difficulty level 8b + onsight and then a route of category 8c + (red dot style) within a few hours (we reported).

A few days later, she added something else:

Demmel did her first level 9a tour.

The route is called "Joe Cita", it is around 50 meters high and includes around 130 trains.

The Böbingerin managed the tour in the fifth attempt and was completely overwhelmed afterwards.

“That tops everything.

I'm still looking for the right words, ”she reported on“ Instagram ”.

She hadn't even dared to dream of creating a route like this because it seemed so far away.

Demmel manages "Joe Cita" on the fifth attempt

Since Demmel couldn't find another suitable free spot on the rock that day - there are currently many sport climbers in Oliana - she went on the route that combines two 8c tours (Joe Blau, Marroncita).

It was "an attempt without real expectations".

Surprisingly for herself, she got through the lower part well and reached the point about five meters below the final deflector, which had previously caused her great problems, “still fairly fresh”.

She had already expected to fall there again - and this is exactly what mobilized additional strength in her and released all pressure.

"I gave everything I still had," reported Demmel.

A little later, “I saw myself clipping” - what followed was “an explosion of emotions”.

In view of the fact that the woman from Böbingen only started climbing four years ago, the Swiss specialist magazine “Lacrux” rates her career so far as “unbelievable”.

In April 2020 she completed her first 8c route ("Odd Fellows" in Franconia).

Demmel has now managed 18 routes in category 8c and harder.

The French scale has prevailed above all in Europe.

She currently goes to 9c.

On the UIAA (Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme) scale this would be a “12”, and on the US scale it would be “5.15d”.

The route that Demmel has now climbed has a difficulty of "11" at the UIAA.
