There was a break from competitions for a good six months.

Now the Young Wildcats, the A-youth of the HSG Würm-Mitte, are playing for the quarter-finals of the youth handball league.

Würmtal - their first season in the youth handball league (JBLH) started like a fairy tale for the A-Juniors at HSG Würm-Mitte.

The team of trainer Miriam Hirsch prevailed against well-known opponents in the preliminary round in autumn and qualified second in a group of five for the intermediate round.

For a long time it looked as if the Würmtaler handball fairy tale would end abruptly.

Now there could be a sequel after all.

In several telephone conferences, the German Handball Federation (DHB) and those responsible for the 16 teams remaining in the competition agreed on a continuation of the season.

“The association provided us with very transparent information about the various options,” reports Hirsch.

JBLH teams decide to continue the handball season by voting

In a vote, it was decided to end the season regularly with the help of a test and hygiene concept and a different game mode.

VfL Oldenburg, for example, withdrew its participation, but the majority of the teams indicated that they were ready to play and were able to implement the required concepts, said Hirsch.

The originally planned mode for the intermediate round with groups of four has been revised.

Instead, the eight participants from North and South Germany compete against each other in knockout matches with a return leg.

JBLH intermediate round: Well-known first opponent for the HSG Würm-Mitte

Well-known opponents of the HSG is the Thuringian HC, whose first women's team is currently fifth in the handball Bundesliga.

The dates are not yet final, but the first leg is expected to take place on Sunday, April 25th, in Graefelfing.

The second leg in Thuringia is set to rise on May 1st.

Should the HSG Würm-Mitte progress, they would meet in the quarter-finals with north-south duels on 8/9.

and May 13th on the winner of the game Buxtehuder SV against TV Hannover-Badenstedt.

The German A-youth champion should finally be in a final four tournament on the weekend of 5th / 6th.

June to be determined.

Handball: New JBLH game mode means more preparation and fewer contacts

"We voted for the new mode and are very satisfied with it," says Hirsch.

On the one hand, unlike the planned group games, there is a little more time to prepare.

In addition, the mode offers the opportunity to keep contacts as low as possible and still determine a winner in a sporty manner.

"Even if there are only two games - it is especially great for our 2002ers when they can play in the A-Youth again," said Hirsch.

DHB and JBLH associations implement corona test concept

In order to be able to carry out the games safely, according to the DHB concept, among other things, corona rapid tests should be carried out on the match day.

If one test is positive, the player will be isolated; if several tests are positive, the game will be canceled.

The DHB has no control over the tests in training operations, but the HSG also uses rapid tests to carry out training safely.

The association will bear the costs for this.

HSG Würm-Mitte: Training weekend for “full throttle” preparation

Despite all the precautions, Hirsch is only sure in the current situation that the games will take place “when the whistle has kicked off”.

But when the time comes, the Young Wildcats, who have been able to train in the past few months thanks to a special permit, want to be ready.

First there is a training weekend with several units.

Hirsch announces: "We are going full throttle in preparation."
